Where can I get 'prop money' from?

Even if you only printed on one side? I would think that would be ok, since you couldn't pass them off as real.
One side might be okay, but I think the federal guidelines still require it to either be monochrome or 25% larger or 25% smaller than normal. Not sure, it's been a while since I looked it up.

As much as I dislike the fragility of US bills and having to actually use money made of paper (here in the land Down Under our bills are tough, water-proof, and plastic). I certainly appreciate the ease with which you can actually make prop money that looks like US bills - with the multi-coloured plastic notes we have here it just isn't possible to make them yourself.

Not sure the 22 year old making $12 an hour behind the teller window will know much about the Treasury Department guidelines regarding photocopied moeny for use as a prop.

I'm not sure that it's really "illegal" to make prop money.

If you look at the US Code, you find:

"Title 18, Chapter 25, Section 471
Whoever, WITH INTENT TO DEFRAUD, falsely makes, forges,
counterfeits, or alters any obligation or other security of the United
States, shall be fined..."

And,

"Title 18, Chapter 25, Section 514
(a) Whoever, WITH THE INTENT TO DEFRAUD--
(1) draws, prints, processes, produces, publishes, or otherwise
makes, ...shall be
guilty of a class B felony."

(Emphasis mine.) The key here of course is "WITH THE INTENT TO DEFRAUD".

Even if an overzealous Treasury agent invaded your set, saw you filming prop money and decided to prosecute, it's hard to imagine any judge (who's ever seen a movie) keeping a straight face if it made it to trial.

My opinion, I'm not a lawyer, blah blah blah...
But I would make (and have made) realistic money for a shot. Control it like you would a loaded gun, destroy it when done shooting.

If it was me and I was so bold... and had a huge ego or something, I would do this:

The property master on the last film I worked on had a huge sack of cash for just such a scene. He informed me that it was even illegal to film real US currency, which I don't know if he was bullshitting or not. Even though we were filming real US currency. Who knows....

funny, i just saw a guy selling extremely real looking prop money to tourists on hollywood blvd. the other night. he had a table set up with stacks of $20's $50's and $100's. i thought about buying some but we were running late to the movies. i try to avoid that area but if i find myself there again soon i will pick some up and if it's any good, maybe i can offer it up for sale here....

- You may be able to get more one dollar notes from a bank?
- Depending on the scene, you can place blank green sheets of paper in between real notes.

18th of December 2006, Damn thats a Massive Penguin!.

To what reason do we owe this "Penguin Pulling" pleasure?

Hey guys,
I have prop money for sale. I have it available in 5, 10, 20, and 100 denominations new and old styles. I offer stacks of approx. 100 notes with either full bills ($25) or one bill on top, and one on bottom with blank fillers in the middle ($10)

I don't have a ton of it, but do have quite a bit.

send me a pm if you're interested.
