Will Sony EX-1 work with Avid Xpress Pro ??

[Eric Papa]

I'm about to film a short tomorrow and my friend showed up with the EX-1. The quality and lens in far superior to the HVX which I have. I'd like to shoot the film on the EX-1, but I'm worried about compatibility with Avid. Will it work, in any way? Xpress Pro 5.7.1

I haven't used any footage from the EX-1, but I know that Avid can handle the HDV codec, so it should work.

Yes it will, you need to export the clips (very fast rewrap) from the Sony Clip Browser. It is now available for Mac and I have tried it. Works great:

What codec should I save it as - when I tried .MXF and dragged the clips into the Bin, they imported into Avid, but then the clip just showed up as all green - not footage.

There is no transcoding needed. Are you on v3 or later? All it is a rewrap of the files.

You problem is Xpress Pro 5.7.x... Full support for all data rates and frame rates came in V3. Take advantage of the $295 upgrade to Media Composer...
