"Berlin" - A Norm Sanders Film - DVD NOW AVAILABLE

Thanks, Tom, hope to see you there. I'm heading out tomorrow AM for travel, and will be arriving into Burbank at 8:30, and hope to be to the festival by 9:30 or 10pm at the latest (probably just in time to catch a final screening, or whatever party they've got - never could get advance details on it), after checking into the hotel I'm staying at in nearby Arcadia.

Think some of the Fat Monster crew may try and make it over as well, last I heard. :)

Also purchased my ticket for the fancy-schmancy Awards Dinner. Better be good! :)

Just rec'd an email that BERLIN is an official selection at the 4th Annual SoCal International Film Festival. Not sure how big of a deal that one is, but they've had some fairly good films submitted to them in the past, look like they have some good awards/nominations available, and they even ask for those who are traveling to attend, if they'll need a hotel room paid for or not (cool in my book!).

It takes place in Huntington Beach, CA, Sept 9-14. I'll see if I can line up another customer visit down there as well, if it's appropriate and the timing works out!
That's awesome! I'll be able to judge for myself now that I've ordered a copy.

Can't wait to watch it.

Yeah, about that ... you Canadian's and your special shipping! I'll take your DVD with me to New Mexico, to see if I can ship from there (have to find a post office). I was able to get the ones I can ship normally out (domestic/US), but International takes special attention at the post office, and I ran out of time today, Michael. Sorry about that, and I've got it ready to go ... will try to get it out ASAP! :)

Berlin is absolutely fantastic! The poster is hanging out in my room. Congratulations on all the publicity and nominations. Glad I could be a part of it.

Thanks, Teresa, glad you're digging that poster so much, and especially glad to hear the film turned out so well to your expectations/hopes. :)

Just got news today that BERLIN has been accepted into another festival: 9th Annual Big Bear Lake International Film Festival, in California. Festival dates are Sept 11th - 14th, also during the same time as the SoCal fest.

Congrats on the AOF nominations, my short NO MIDDLE GROUND has also been nominated for BEST EDITING for this years 08 festival.

...too bad I wont be able to be there and meet your team personally...

again congrats!
gv.

Thanks, Abalex! I'm going to hit a couple of more film blocks tomorrow (Thurs, the 31st), in addition to catching BERLIN's screening ... I'll check to see when yours screens and/or screened, to see if I can catch it tomorrow as well. :) Congrats on the nomination!

BERLIN screens today at the AOF Fest, in Pasadena

BERLIN screens today at the AOF Fest, in Pasadena

Just a reminder, for anyone who wants to catch it, you can see BERLIN on the big screen at the AOF Fest, tomorrow (July 31st, Thursday) at the 4pm block of films.

Go to www.aoffest.com for more details on location, etc. :)

Look forward to seeing anyone who can make it!

Just wanted to give a little DVD pimp for Berlin.

I loved the film, thought it was terrific! Make sure to pick up a DVD when you can! I had the opportunity to see it again at the 2008 AOF festival on the big screen in a theater and it just looked incredible! Amazing work Norm!

Thanks, Brandon! It was nice to see all the questions wanting to pour in on BERLIN, once our little Q&A session started with the filmmakers, and glad to see everyone enjoyed it so much.

For anyone who's impressed with the film, I think they'll be even more impressed with the overall DVD and additional content (BTS, Interviews, bonus film, etc.).

Troy, GREAT meeting you & your wonderful bride as well! I WILL be watching your film during or before my flight back home today! Really looking forward to it. Also incredibly cool to finally meet Matt and his dad, Gary (such an incredibly nice & FUNNY couple of guys), and of course you, Brandon. :) Had a nice time at the Awards Dinner last night. Super glad our DP for BERLIN, Dan Ayers, was able to attend as well ... nice to be able to see him again (he's been working in LA for the past several months), and catch up some.

Though BERLIN didn't walk away with any of the wins for the 3 nominations it was up for, I at least feel okay to losing out to the ones that DID win, as from the short clips I could see, it looks like it was stiff competition. From knowing what I know about some of even the smaller, newer festivals, I've got to guess that there were at LEAST 1,000 short films or more submitted from all over the world to this festival. Of that, I'm thinking probably 80-100 were selected for official screenings .... so to make the top 5 in each of those categories .... well, I still feel good about it. :)

Looking forward to seeing how well it does in the other festivals as announcements continue to come out.

Your film was AMAZING! I was truly impressed and emotionally moved by it. It was wonderful hanging out with you and Dan. Hope to see you and your Cat 5 Hurricane again sometime.

Hey Norm!
Been away from dvxuser for about a year working on http://www.chefandfather.com/
So much has happened since I have been away. Glad you stuck with Berlin through all that you went through. Truly inspiring and I am going to go to the website and buy it now.

Gary, you're too kind. It was a sincere pleasure to be able to meet you, and Matt! I'm also happy to have introduced you to the wonderful Cat 5. :)

Greg, thanks so much! I'll keep a look out, and get your DVD out to you ASAP. Also, I checked out the trailer for Chef and Father ... I seriously dig what you're doing with it, and agree, the family gathering at the table is a lost treasure. It'd be great if you could have an impact on even just ONE family, and the influence and memories that could bring to them that they may not have otherwise had without your encouragement & help.

Speaking of shipping out the DVD, I'll have yours out on Monday, Michael. I never was able to hit a post office while I was traveling this past week, so I'll do it Monday to get it shipped up to Canada for you, via USPS (NOT UPS!). :)

Lastly, Troy, I checked out your film, and there were some great laugh out loud moments in there! Glad I got to watch it, and looking forward to your next one!

Wow, John, thanks a ton! I've only read through it once, but will be sure to again tomorrow. :) Love the detail, as well as how you broke down the story & elements. Very nice. :)

Hey Norm,

I purchased Berlin about three weeks ago and I received my copy last night. The first thing I did was pop it into my computer and watch every last part of the DVD. Wow, even this morning when I woke up I was still in awe of the incredible quality work you have managed to achieve with little time and budget.

Never once in the film did I feel like writing some element off "because it is a low budget film" Your story is impeccable, then ending comes out of nowhere (Especially if you have been drooling over the trailers for two months) Your lighting is emotive edgy and most importantly "Clean."

On a lot of big budget films when the Director happens to also act in the film, it feels like the film drags, yours doesn't it somehow feels right, you nailed it and although many people have said it I am going to say it again, You Nailed it!

As a side note, I loved you menu design, and BTS featurettes, well produced and very informative. I also Loved your other short film "Where Silence Falls" It it pulled you in emotionally from the get go, and literally rocked my world.

Great Work, you have assembled a great team for this film and I can only hope to do what I do as well as you do someday!

Thanks, Xylon, that really means a lot for me to hear! I'm really glad you found value in the film/DVD, and that there's some inspiration for you in there. Again, I sincerely appreciate the feedback and kind words.
