Show us your CutAways tips/trick

I could not find a subject on this and thought it would be a good idea to start a thread that many of us could benefit from. This has to do with "CutAway's".

A CutAway is type of transition used Instead of the boring fade in fade out transition. An example of this would be to put 2 or 3 video clips together; animate them to move together to ether side (R/L) with motion blur etc. This become your CutAway transition in your editing NLE system. You see this effect all the time on the A&E channel amongst others. So lets post examples, share creative ideas, link of how to do's etc.

You could achieve this in FCP but i honestly think you would probably get better results in AE.

cheers!

Do you have an example of this somewhere? Because I don't know what you mean. A cut away to me is just cutting away from your interview subject to b-roll.

Pretty good definition of a cut away:
"A cutaway is a shot of something related to but outside the main action of a scene. It's a shot that cuts away from the main action to a separate or secondary action - hence its name, cutaway. For instance, a shot of a high school teacher lecturing to his students is followed by another one of the principal standing at the door listening. Then back to the shot of the teacher lecturing. The shot of the principal is the cutaway shot. In this instance, the cutaway also acts as a reaction shot - a shot of a subject's face to capture an emotional response."

What you are talking about mcvideo sounds more like custom transitions/wipes.

i'll provide a link of videos i have seen for examples.

In the meantime.. for those who don't mind sharing your customer transitions i'd love to see them..
