The X-Files: I Want To Believe

Saw this at the midnight showing. It was okay. Nothing spectacular. A "B" episode of the series at best.

The cinematography was really good. The acting was as good as it was in the show. Nothing new there.

I had a few problems with the storyline. I didn't like the subplot of Father Joe being a pedophiliac priest. It had no bearing whatsoever except to make Scully disbelieve everything he said. The other part was showing a picture of the current president, and then going into the X-Files theme. STUPID!

Xzibit was totally miscast in the part. I couldn't believe him as an FBI Agent.

Overall a good movie for X-Files fans.

Well, as an X-Files junkie, I'm sure I'll see it.

Having problems with the story lines? Ha-ha.

It stinks...

It stinks...

As a x-file fan I was facinated by the great cinematography, but the poorly written plot was not credible, and had been done before in 1975 to the point of cliché. Come on; transplanting heads...?
What happened to aliens and space ships and abductions. It was really just a format for Scully's emotional angst over not being able to accept Muldar's obsession with something else besides her.
Poor Amanda Peet, once she fussed over Muldar in front of Scully it was down the shaft onto some rebar... must have been telekinesis.
The big ending was poorly handled and scattered.
If you don't see the movie because I revealed the plot, consider yourself lucky to not have wasted $7 but still know what happened.

The X-files 2: I want my money back.

Yes, it is pretty bad flick, and this is coming from a die hard X-files fan.

I was never a die hard fan but enjoyed the show(still haven't seen a whole lot of episodes). With that said the movie was quite the let down. As Zfarm said a "B" episode of the series at best.

I saw it at midnight Thursday and "I Want To Believe" the flim was better...but its not.

Aw man, you stole my thunder -- I was gonna use that line! :)

Seriously, it was mediocre to bad. But seeing as this was the first film I've seen since "The Dark Knight", it was astonishing as to how "blah" X-Files was as compared to how masterful TDK was. If you want to see them both this summer, definitely see X-Files first...

Sorry Barry :) I had a lot of coffee yesterday so I was on my game.

It certainly was mediocre to bad. You are right it sure didn't help seeing "The Dark Knight" again the day before X-Files. With a summer of great films (Iron Man, Hulk, Wall-e, Dark Knight) X-files just didn't stack up at all. The credits in Iron Man were more entertaining than X-files.

I'm not a huge X-Files fan but wasn't the meat of the show based in sci-fi and aliens? To bring back a franchise after all this time and not tell a story based on that seems like a very strange choice to me. In fact, I'd like to see an X-files episode on how this got made.

I always enjoyed the episodes dealing with other types of supernatural things, ala the spiritual side... which this one really deals with.

Yeah, I was always a big fan of the monster of the week episodes. Although I did like the alien/conspiracy line they used, it just seemed to be never ending in the last couple of seasons. The MOTW episodes were always creepy. Episodes that dealt with religion were always awesome, I loved the epsiodes when the Devil or God made an apperance.

I'm looking forward to seeing this.

I ventured out of the house to see this yesterday. I actually dug it quite a bit. It was exactly what I was expecting. It's a nice, stand-alone episode. It wasn't trying to be a big blockbuster. That's not what the show was, and I wouldn't want an X-Files movie to be like that.

Movies with big chase scenes and explosions every 30 seconds bore the hell out of me. I like my flicks a bit smaller and this worked for me.

loved the show but i think i'll wait for this oen to come out on dvd or cable. story looks like a 2 hour episode of one of the episodes.

A sweeping generalization about the TV series: the alien consipiracy plot only really factored into season finales, season premieres, and two-part "sweeps" episodes in the fall and spring; the other 16 or so episodes a year were stand-alone episodes based on other supernatural phenomenon. Which is what this movie seems to be. I'm interested in seeing it, but I don't know if it's enough to drag me out to the theater--not a lot is anymore...

...story looks like a 2 hour episode of one of the episodes.

Totally correct. I just saw this last night, and it really did feel like a two-hour TV episode. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't anything special, either, especially after six years.

I was always a big fan of the conspiracy episodes, rather than the "monster of the week" ones. Which is probably why I didn't really care for this film. The first one stood alone, but still fit within the lore. This one felt like just any other episode.

I wasn't expecting much, so I wasn't disappointed, but it was still unfortunate.
