Lessons Learned and Report on My First BoomRecorder Shoot

Thanks for turning me on to this particular thread. I am wondering if there is a program like Boom Recorder for Windows XP on PC?

Mixerman,

If you look at a later post in the lessons learned thread, you will see that I finally picked up a R n R cart and am using two shelves. I included pictures in that thread.

ptalsky for your AA batteries do you use duracell Procells or something else? I've been told that they last the longest of all batteries. Also Oade Brothers sell two upgraded versions of the Tascam HD-P2 of which I have the Super mode and love it. I have put it up against my buddy's SD 702 and we both like them equally well, we were using sennhisers for the test.

Burning data DVD's on the Mac is painful. I think in the future I am going to recommend that the director bring a hard drive and I will dump all the files direct to the hard drive. It took me an extra 30 minutes or so to burn the final DVD today (the Mac burn data DVD software is painfully slow... the verification of the burn takes longer than the burn itself. Maybe someone can suggest better software or a setting I missed).

Phil,
As to DVD burns. Toast is the Mac software that is standard. The burning function built into the OS sucks. It makes a vertual disk and then burns that, takes forever and I have no idea why. You may also have a slow burner? I can burn a full DVD (single layer) on an 12x burner in about 3.5 minutes and about the same for verification.
Just to reiterate, Toast works great, MUCH BETTER than the OS burning function.

I use the Ultralast's from Fry's - I usually stock up when they go on sale - $15 for 100. I usually get a full day on my Sennheiser G2's and on the slate - I use my NP-1 and BDS for the Tascam and the 302 so I don't know how long they would last on AA's. Oh, and a full day on the ListenTech's. I change all the batteries out first thing each day, so I generally don't have to do too many battery changes during the day.
