lol, it's usually only cost effective if you do it large quantities and buy dirt cheap vodka, we used to do it with like a mr. boston's or fleischman's, stuff that you'd never drink unless it's heavily mixed.

If you already have the Vodka, get some Vermouth for Martinis, it's cheap. As far as Tequilla goes, you have to be really careful of the cheap stuff. Montezuma for instance is really cheap, but it tastes like wood alcohol. If you have an ABC Liquor in your neighborhood, check out Mexican Sunrise. It's cheap, tastes ok in a shot, and comes in Gold or Lite. And if you don't have an ABC in your neighborhood, move out of the ghetto.
