Should I turn 'Afterlife' into a novel?

I'd say it depends on how many stories you have in you vs time. I turned my first screenplay into a novel. Had 3 agents on me about buying it too! none of them did and it was a huge pain to learn "new politics". Every medium has new things you need to learn.

If it were me, I'd just write more stuff and if I didn't like the first version of somthing, i'd be like Geoge Lucas and redo it until I get it right! hahaha

Are you a screenwriter only or are you a combo screenwriter/producer

Also what do you look for when working with other people/groups.

Thanks

Go for it! I will be first in line to buy a copy @ Barnes and Noble's to read and hopefully get an autographed one!

I'm a writer. Period.

I'm not sure what you mean about what I look for when working with others. Can you explain?

I will take you up on that offer! I am an avid reader, and love a good novel. Of course, I don't have anything autographed.....yet  Part of me is now dying to read your "Afterlife" script, but there is the side of me that doesn't, I don't want to ruin the book's ending for myself.

you will probably have to expand the film script - just as most movie versions of books chuck out all but about 100 pages of the book, you probably only have about 100 pages of book material in your film. Padding is not recommended, but of course you may have a pile of fascinating background and extre detail and subplots you could put into a book.

Very true. I would also do a lot more extensive description of locations, etc. in the book. And I'd be able to related what people are thinking and feeling as well, not just what they say. Lots more character and plot development.

BTW.....did you read the script???

Just didn't know if you did collaborative projects with other prod companies. I've noticed that you are motivated to sell scripts or to see them get filmmed, but I was just wondering how you felt on the production side.

do you do any producing? does your company do producing? Would you rather just sell a script? If you sell a script is it for money or for points? Do you ever think about taking someone else's story and turning it in to a screenplay? what's the charge on story to screenplay (money vs points)?

I just see you as an active writer. And you are in my area. While I do write (and in my unhumble opinion am pretty good at it), I am starting to lean more toward the producing/directing side of things.

Well, I produced 'Afterlife'. You can see production stills and the rough trailer on the website (www.chapelgrovefilms.com/afterlife). I also am in post on my second feature, the suspense/drama "Tangled Web", which I wrote, produced and directed.

That being said, I also write for others. I just did a rewrite (paid) for David Payne's feature 'Holy War'. And am in the process of trying to work out some other deals.

So the answer is 'yes' and 'yes', I suppose. :)

PM me with your email address and let's talk!

David

I can't play realplayer and I've had problems in the past with the system. That's why I haven't viewed it. Vimeo is a good place to upload videos, you can even password protect them. I only mention this because I've noticed in the past people have used RealPlayer to save on bandwith.

I guess I'll google David Payne and Holy War cause I don't know who that is currently...

EDIT----

Well I just looked up David Payne - He seems like a cheerful fellow! Some serious built up feelings - but I'll leave it at that. I couldn't find a clip though. He removed the only one from YouTube. Interesting though.

anyway... do you know this thread was already on Google? I googled 'David Payne "Holy War"' and ti was already showing up in Google and even said "added 53 minutes ago"! Wow! google is up on the message boards with a vengence.

Also this is my 99 post so Senior Member here I come! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Yeah, when I get the trailer tweaked the way I want it, I'll probably put it on YouTube. Meantime you'll just have to take my word for it. :)

David's a good guy. I think I probably put more 'holy' than 'war' into his script, but he's free to change it any way he wants. It was fun to write!

That's interesting that Google got this thread so fast. One night I was passing by a TV and Fox News or CNN (can't remember) was airing a live news conference about some missing person, giving the description of their car and license plate number. I went straight to my computer and did a Yahoo search on the license number -- and there was a link to an online story about that very same news conference! (I learned later that what I'd seen was a reply of a news conference from a few hours earlier, but still -- that was pretty fast!)

I'd use Vimeo or Exposure Room instead of YouTube. YouTube compresses too much and truth is for artists it's just too much of a hassle. Exposure Room allows for 720p vids as well I think. If you do want YouTube fo rexposure consider putting a vid on both - one for the everyday person and one for the artists.
