The Ebay DOF adaptor

That's an M2 Indian made adapter. It sucks and there are several people (Postmaster is one of them I think) who have tried them. Redrock themselves have warned that these are cheap ripoff.

that's actually not the one from india.
that's another person selling them. nobody that i know of here knows anything about this adapter.

no telling how good this is really. unless you buy one.

so buy one, and letus know.

HEHEHEHEHeh get the pun.

Im sorry ive been drinking.

Really though, I was thinking about it as well. The look like one of the best DIY out there and you can get it for 100 bucks plus shipping if you wait a many weeks.

Funny, I just got mine and was about to do a review. I took for evvvvvvver to get here and the dude isnt the best communicator. anyway, its pretty decent. its a sturdy build and the best deal ur gonna find w/ out a big budget. My test footage from yesterday is here:

http://vimeo.com/1368861

(Keep in mind the footage was shot really quickly, no real setup time.)

I ended up adding a rail block and doin a little cosmetic upgrading. The housing needs to be sound deadened as soon as you get your hands on it, its a little loud. The motor spins some type of sanded plexi-NOT a clear cd as i had expected. I'm still not sure why this guy went with such a tall GG housing, but there's extra space inside it Right now it takes a single 9v. There is no variable motor speed or external power source connection. The "Macro tube" unscrews in a couple parts for cleaning. What i love about is that even if ive gotta rebuild it down the road it only cost me like 150. A safe alternative to play with before buyin a letus. Also keep in mind that this thing sits tall so ur mattebox better be y adjustable or ur gonna have to mod it. I STRONGLY recommend getting a spare 72mm uv filter because the cam end of the adapter is pretty exposed. If you guys are interested i'd put in orders now cause i guess he only has a few left. Hit me up with any questions. Here are some quick shots:

I don't think that was a decision he made. It appears to be a project box from radio shack and to get the proper width, you con't have a lot of choices of size.

That tube is made with plumbing supplies you can get at Home Depot.

Thanks for posting the pics and the footage. I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering what those guys adapters were actually like.

Yes, it looks like the same radioshack plastic project box I used for my DIY adapter prototype. The main problem I had was stability of the lens while focusing or bouncy hand held shots, especially with the longer lenses like 80- 300mm.

Price seems right to get your feet wet using a 35mm adapter. I probably spent TRIPLE that making my own. (mostly in achromats and gg's)

If it weren't for the 12 week shipping time, I'd say get it, but jeez, it sounds to me like one guy trying to pump them out all by himself.

Saw your stuff on vimep. Is their any noticeable grain? How soft is it compared to stock? I assume you didnt zoom past the vignetting.

Yeah, I needed to zoom in a bit more to keep the edges clean. Earlier i was using my wide angle so i was fighting for every mm of the shot i could get. Again i apologize for the shaky footage (only test crap). The wobbling is due almost completely to me im sure. The whole thing is pretty solid on my indirails, but just too big for handheld. I'll have some real stuff later this week to be posted. The grain honestly wasn't too bad and the focus wasnt too soft either. You can see very minor patterns as the gg spins IF you are lookin for it. I found it to be a bit different but not outta wack. I'm sure both factors would be improved in a higher end adapter but...

For perspective, here it is assembled on the DVX. Kinda like a bazooka lol. I modified one of the knock off matteboxes for height and its working great. Mine appears to be almost the same one indisystems has, except theirs is swing away.

****Found a bit of a problem just now****
The adapter isnt mount completely perpendicular to the macro tube. Its outta square. I'm not using any components that make this a problem, but it could be an issue for someone else. This also means their will be more vignetting on one side. Unlikely that they all have this issue, but mine does

hey..

thanks ALOT for sharing man..
i think its a darn cheap alternative eh.. i think should be ordering it.. haha..

hmm. do u think that guy will just take the $$ and dont deliver the goods? any worries of that sort??

anyway, as for the rails and support, do u make your own or buy from someone else?

I've got the indiRAILSpro xv from indifocus.com. Tim has amazing customer service and alot of good tips. I seriously reccomend the 18" for this adapter.

I highly doubt the dude is gonna take off with your $. Mine took 10 weeks to get, but it came thru in the end. You've gotta order it and forget about it or you'll go nuts waiting (like me).

fixed. Vimeo's been undoing alot of my setting as of late. My clip titles seem to be disapearing as well

The test vid you uploaded looked beautiful - like film. Colors are rich with great depth and loved the vignette around the frame edge. I'm just new to moving images (video/film etc), although I'm reasonably competent with photoshop. If you don't mind me asking, what did you do in post to give it that beautiful look? What program(s)/plugins etc were you using?

I would not take my chances with this adapter. The video is too important to trust an adapter that has not been in use much and proven to work well.
There are many more adapters that we know work great.
