The Dark Knight

I just thought she was a pain in the film. I mean - I haven't watched the other films in a long time.

I guess I was too wrapped up in the vast look of the film as opposed to the context of the girl. I actually thought the Lamborghini was far sexier.

One of the only interesting parts for me was the scene between Gylenhall and Ledger because I kept thinking about his *other* most famous role where Ledger obviously played opposite her brother. It felt sad to me watching that scene.

Got back from seeing this at the IMAX theater here a little while ago -
WOW, was that a hell of a lot of fun!

Sure, there may be things to nit pick - but overall this absolutely smoked most things I've seen lately.
It takes a lot to make me go to the theaters these days - but this is exactly the kind of film I love seeing on a big screen.

And for those of you bothered by Maggie Gyllenhaal, just remember you could have see Katie Holmes up there again.
Personally I thought Gyllenhaal did a great job with what she was given to do.

And yes, Heath Ledger kicked ass.
He almost made the Joker believable as a real world character to me.
Impressive.

I will say a couple more things that I liked so as to prove I didn't completely hate the movie. The first was the opening. The opening was GREAT. That drifting shot towards the glass building window with the haunting score in the background. All of the Joker's goons prepping. It was a really well put together sequence and one that gave me high hopes for the movie. Ultimately, that might have hurt my viewing experience, as I was expecting everything that followed to be just as good. Unfortunately, that best scene was followed by maybe one of the worst scenes. The whole fake batman sequence, which was as clumsy in its execution as the opening scene was brilliant. I'm still not sure why a major villian from the previous film was in the movie for 30 seconds. But it's stuff like that that put me off.

The other thing is that it's almost impossible to leave that movie and not be spouting off Joker line readings. Even the cleaning crew greeted those leaving with the Joker-accented question, "Why sho sheerrrious?" So that was kind of cool.

See, I liked some things.

cg - usually I'd say you're too harsh on movies (that I like anyhow) :) , but I've got to agree with you on the juxtaposition of the opening scene and the 'fake batman' scene as you named it. GREAT GREAT opening with a killer intro for the Joker.... followed up by a rather clumsy scene with a relatively weak intro for Batman.

Still, for me, it didn't ruin much of anything - I still had a blast and thought the movie was great overall...but yes, it definitely had its ups and downs. That opening bank sequence is hard to top... and I suppose that's one of the dangers when you start out on such a high note.

I have much of the same nitpicks as most people. The fake batman scene was kind of weak, and the Cillian Murphy cameo was kind of random and out of place. And I didn't really like the Bat Sonar. But the good completely makes up for those little nitpicks. They weren't enough to ruin the movie for me. Not nearly.

I just came back from the theater.

Some of the shots were really, really nice. I wish I could have seen it in an IMAX theater. I thought Ledger did the best Joker of anyone that's played him, and a very good performance as a nut-job but I can't say I saw Oscar there. I admit that I was trying to see through the character to the person underneath, and it should say something that his performance was complete enough that I couldn't see the man under the mask - even though I tried pretty hard.

There were very good acting parts by most of the major characters, and some that were somewhat weak. I did think the morality play at the end was a bit much, although I understand why it was there, it felt like it was driven a bit far to the end (stop slapping me - I get it already). That said, it did tie up the moral issues that the Joker presented and explored.

I also think they could have cut a few of the plot lines (must have been twenty or so). If you delete the screen-time of the action scequences, Batman/Bruce Wayne (to me at least), had some of the weakest acting (and his gruffing up the voice thing was getting on my nerves as well). Of course, it may have been portrayed and edited like that for a reason, and I suspect it was.

Overall - good movie if a tad long - go see it (my butt-checks are still smarting, from the wait outside, to the wait inside, to the wait until something hit the screen, to the commercial "entertainment" preceding the movie - it was a near-five-hour event - and that's just too long - my kidneys are still complaining).

I'd probably be in the minority here - but for a super hero Billionaire character that uses technology over special powers - I think Ironman was a better balanced character, movie, and story even with some of the lame scenes and plot-lines it had in it. Given the chance to see either again, or a choice between both DVDs and only having enough money for one - I'd probably opt for Ironman.

Of course, this is just an opinion.

I am not surprised though... this movie just was amazing...

I cannot wait to see it again..

Anyone mention the awesome score?

Yeah, my man Hans... He's my fave. composer.

I'm actually not the biggest fan. I worked at a trailer house once and had to compile all his scores onto a hard drive, and you could not tell where one score ended and the other started, they all sounded so damn similar. His work in the two Batman films is great, but he also did them together with James Newton Howard. His best score by far is for The Lion King, but again, he was working with other composers.

True, Newton Howard I am sure adds a lot of style, but it still smells of Zimmer... I don't think anyone can do modern epic orchestral like he can.

Saw it last night. Awesome film. Don't have time to go into too much right this second, but the only thing that bothered me a bit was the editing. Too me, it felt like they took a 3-1/2 hour movie and cut it down. A lot of the scenes kind of ended abruptly for me. I hope we get a long-ass director's cut when the DVD comes out.

I completely agree. The movie never FELT like 2 1/2 hrs IMO, but it certainly felt as if it had been hacked off in some places. It's been reported (March/April) that Nolan's original cut came in at 3 hours, so there is a bunch trimmed. All I hold against the movie is probably stuff that was wrapped up in that cut: what happened to the Joker and his thugs at the party after Batman jumped out the window, for example, and other abrupt scene endings/jumps.

This movie destroys any comic adaptation that has come before it. My wife, who I drag to all these comic movies really liked this one because as she said "it's adult and grounded in the real world." I have to agree, the themes all hit the right notes and really I don't know at this point where they can go with #3. Hopefully Nolan takes a good long break and does some more stuff in between. It's a great script that they just happened to put all these dressed up freaks into. It's just a really great movie. Ledger totally deserves a best supporting nod, we'll have to see what else comes this year but right now he's got the Oscar in my book. I want to see this again dammit!

Just got back. **** that was awesome.

Been waiting for this since Batman Begins and this did not dissapoint.

It's a lot to process right now.

****ing fantastic.

Cannot wait to see it again.

I don't know, I actually had a few problems with the movie, mostly the writing.

Overall it was worth seeing, but its been WAAAAY overhyped.
