mixing NTSC and PAL footage in one project...please help

I filmed a concert of my girlfriends band using 3 PAL DVX's and one Andromeda DVX (recorded on tape in normal NTSC resolution).
Now I want to combine the different angles of the cams for the DVD, but I'm wondering how to handle the different formats in one PAL timeline. I think the NTSC footage will be 20% faster (60i/50i ...29.97p/25p). I will take the sound from and external DAT-device I recorded it to, but will there be a noticable slowmo effect if I slow down the 60i footage to 50i? Does anyone have experience with this issue and could share his workflow with me? I'm using Premiere Pro 2.0 , After Effects 7 Pro but also have access to Avid X-Press pro at work (if this would help...)
Thanks for any input.
Best wishes,
Manfred

Hi,

I think your best bet is to conform the NTSC footage to PAL before you edit. You can do this with your PP2 or AE, but there are other tools that will also do the job or even a better job, Canopus's Procoder or TMPGEnc Xpress 4.

If the audio isn't being mixed from all the sources, I doubt you'll have much of a problem mixing the video footage, once it is synched up.

Quick and sometimes dirty.
Another Option would be to import it Premiere .On the timeline rightclick the Ntsc Footage and choose Field options always deinterclace .

The second one would be to interpret the Ntsc footage in the projectwindow and set the framerate 25 and pixelaspect ration to 1.067
It will looked squeezed abit or streched out.
But it wil save some time.

If you wont use to many ntsc shots I suggest you convert them with After effects if possible.

Goodluck.

Thanks a lot for you replies. I converted the footage with Canopus and it worked fine. Once again the forum was very helpful :-)
