Major films you've never seen.

The Bicycle Thief.
Citizen Cane.
Gone With the Wind.
2001. A Space Odyssey.
Chinatown.
Annie Hall.
Some Like it Hot.
The Grapes of Wrath.

These are all I can remember. I am renting the Bicycle Thief and A Space Odyssey as we speak.

Taxi driver and raging bull are two i'd like to watch.

I finally saw One flew over the coocoo's nest and casablanca but i still haven't seen Lawrence of Arabia.

I've also heard alot of good things about Miller's crossing. And i've been meaning to see "les trois couleurs" the three colours, by [FONT=verdana, geneva, arial][SIZE=-1]Krzysztof Kieslowski.

Gone With The Wind is very much of its time. If you like that filmmaking era its one of the great spectacles, but I could see someone not caring for it when compared to more contemporary filmmaking. I wouldn't say its required viewing.

Hahaha, I've never seen Gone with the Wind and I live in Atlanta (I even visited Margaret Mitchel's house, the writer).

The Seven Samurai
Superman 2
Annie Hall
Bridge over river Kwai
e.t.
easy rider
Lawrence of Arabia
One flew over the coocoo's nest
Raging Bull
This is Spinal Tap
Goonies

That's why I can never get through all of it. The whole style of it: the acting, cinematography, writing, direction, score, etc etc, like you said, is very much of its time. I don't know, it just feels dated.

I've never seen Network until today, and holy sh*it is it one of the most darkly hilarious and brilliant films I've ever seen. I think Peter Finch gives one of the ten greatest film performances of all time in this. And Paddy Chaevsky's writing is as good as it gets. Sad though that much of what Howard Beale rails against in this film came true a long time ago. A must see if you haven't...Oh, and Michael Clayton owes a huge debt to this film.

This is a great thread
Along with everyone else, Gone with the Wind is one I've just never seen
Casablanca, Godfather movies, etc etc

For me, it's almost as if I never want to see a movie after everyone says "Oh wow! This is the pinnacle of film-making -- one of the greatest!", because for some strange reason, I feel like it's lost its mystery. I'm not going in without expectations - I'm being told that I will love this film (and should feel guilty if I don't  )
But at the same time, I want to see what's so great about them, and see if it inspires me...
Ah, a conundrum

To my credit though (and certainly many on this forum), I *have* seen many films that very few have seen....or should ever want to see. Let's hear it for the B-movie!!
Heck, maybe I should start a new thread to parallel this one - "Crappy films you still wonder why you watched"
I could dig it :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Never seen Blow-up.

I just re-watched Apocalypse Now this week. If that is on your "never seen great movie" list, go do it now.

Apocalypse Now Redux is the extended version with all the stuff they cut out of the original film, crazy long.

I havent seen The Shining since I was nine... and I havent seen Raging Bull.

Goodfellas is one of the best mob movies ever and the Godfather is its own genre of film.

Taxi Driver hands down one of my favorite movies.

For anyone that likes old late 60's early 70's films go check out Hi, Mom. I havent been able to find it on DVD but it is on tv every once and awhile, its one of De Niros earlier films.

I have both versions. Personally, I don't think the extra footage does anything for the movie. I still prefer it in its shorter form...it's a tighter movie.

Tomorrow the Fox Theater is showing a double feature: Casablanca and North By Northwest. And it's free. I'm so going.

I really dig both versions quite a bit. Probably prefer the shorter just a bit more. I have Redux on DVD, wish I owned an edition with both.

This is a great thread. But it can be quite embarrassing to be a member of this site and have to admit which heavy hitters you haven't yet seen. I'm sure there are quite a few. A lot more than I am about to list but I'm listing just what popped into my head. This has been haunting me for years.

Alien
Aliens
Aliens 3 (rumor has it, not very good i know)

As to why? I can't say. I just never got around to it. Maybe I'm a nancy and don't like to be scared. In my defense, I have rented Alien and Aliens probably 3 or 4 times over the years and for whatever reason didn't put them in the DVD player (or VHS back when) and had to return them.

I'm so ashamed.

Haven't seen Citizen Cane but the big mystery was spoiled for me by an episode of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon when I was a kid. (but who doesn't know what Rosebud is?) Guess I'll watch it someday.

Apocalypse Now...um...I haven't seen Lawrence of Arabia or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but I will soon. I haven't seen Seven Samurai but I've owned the DVD for years. I don't know why I haven't watched it. I love Kurosawa's stuff...I loved Rashamon...
