Panasonic goes CMOS

I see no reason to expect anything new in regards to CMOS. I agree with Jan; 3MOS just sounds cooler than 3CMOS. If Panasonic had any new muscles to flex, they wouldn't do so on a consumer cam--they want to keep costs down.

I just did some footage with a Canon HV 20. Took sort of "filming the film" shots of our adventures in Eastern Europe for ARTE TV. I filmed a LOT out of the driving car and hoped to see some rolling shutter effects.....NADA ! All passing lamp poles were straight.
Honestly: I was looking hard for the effect.
What do I have to do to get this terrible CMOS rolling shutter effect? :-)
lower the shutter speed by turning off automation and lowering it by hand?

Post a clip if you don't mind.

Try a whip pan. Find a lamp post, person, or some other subject and quickly whip pan left and right. Not that I shoot with those kinds of shots, but doing those really fast whip pans should get you some nice juicy skew.

Find some sample clips,

Click to play or dowload the asx file, then open it with the notepad to find the "WMV" file.

without any due disrespect but is this "mos" member is perhaps a spammer or a bot?

(I will gladly recline this statement if it turns out otherwise)

The compression is terrible. I can't really judge anything from those clips. I'm gonna wait for high quality H264 before I make any judgment. The clips posted play very odd, hoping this is just compression issues.

Anything wrong?

What i said are just some simple facts about the MOS image sensor.

In fact, MOS image sensor is the very first image sensor used in camcaorders in 1960s, then comes the CCD, then the CMOS.

Now MOS comes back, i am really very interested in it, because it has the abilitis
to achieve high speed data transferring when increasing resolution and reducing over all chip size, just like CMOS did.

And the abilities to achieve Global shutter!

And high fill factor!

Different sensor has different quantum efficiency at different wavelengths, the efficiency at short wavelenths (BLUE........)is lower. then multiplied by the fill factor, we got the real quantum efficiency. In general, CMOS has lower efficiency and lower fill factor, I think it maybe the reason of the inaccurate reproduction of some color................

MOS is a promising sensor, and also the back-illuminated CMOS that SONY just show, the back- illnminated tech is not new too, it used in some CCD worked in low light condition for many years.

MOS has something good, I am very interested to see how good it is.........

That is all.

These samples are just some very first clips shot by users like you and me in auto mode.

I feel the image is some kind of "DRY"??? I don't know how to describle it.

Impresswatch in JAPAN should do some reviews recently, there will be some m2ts files......

Sorry, your post seemed to fit the typical patterns usually exhibited by web bots and spammers (large body of text usually copy and pasted), clearly you are real, my sincere apologies.

Anhar,

Hey folks,

Does anyone know about buying cameras off ebay from Japan from minigoo2006 that's selling the SD100?

I'd like to buy one but I'm afraid it might not be legit. The site that sells them says the warranty is only good for one year in Japan. In that case, I'd pick up the cam with out the hard drive moving parts which is the SD100 correct?

However, if this camera is coming to the U.S. next month then I may wait like the rest of you because it may take a while for the camera to get to me.

And ultimately, I'd be paying a little more for the Japan version right than the U.S. version?

Thoughts? Experiences before purchase? Kholi where are you? I may ask you for your Ultimate... :)

. . .

MOS has something good, I am very interested to see how good it is.
Except, didn't Jan Crittenden say that the new Panasonic imager is a CMOS chip, and that "3MOS" is simply marketing?

These samples are just some very first clips shot by users like you and me in auto mode.

Yeah, for auto mode these clips are very unimpressive. I've seen great automode footage from my HF10 and from HV20 cameras.

And MOS, do you work for Panasonic?

No:)..........

But I wish I could..........I'm serious:)

And if I said the back-illuminated CMOS that SONY just show can achieve 100% fill factor and improve the sensibility greatly...........Maybe I should work for SONY...............

I have said above,

"What i said are just some simple facts about the MOS image sensor."

Maybe not the facts about the SD100............

All is my guess, I think it should be global shutter in my own opinion.

MOS has something good, I am very interested to see how good it is
