I can already see some of the replies to this post, but I have a question that I can't seem to find any answers to:
Why is video (and all of the surrounding products) so freaking expensive?
I know that Panasonic, Canon, Sony and the likes are corporations, and they want a rediculous profit, but it just seems to add up REAL quick. Yes, I know that a DVX100 shoots better than a High 8 handy cam, and a HVX is better than the DVX. Understood. I'm totally for the difference in pricing in that. But if I understand correctly, if I want to add some DOF, I'm dropping an additional $2000 easy for the 35mm adapter, rails, lenses (wide and tele), etc. Don't forget about your matte box, monitor, P2 cards, Firestore Drive, lighting, lav mics and so on ... PLUS you need a tripod that's going to hold all that new crap.
You can start with a $2000 camera, and without blinking an eye, end up spending $10,000. How do people afford this? I guess it's the price of love...
