That link is a truly monstrous conversation.... Does anyone know if I can buy one of the TFT LCD monitors for use in cars to use as a camera monitor? I'd have to cobble together a battery pack, but there are lots on ebay in the 7+ inch range for under $100. What's the catch?

Thanks,

Peter

climbupit for around the same price, you can buy a portable dvd player, or one of the portable lcd screen they have video in

Thank you!

Seems I need to improve my googling-skills >_<

Lol I literally stumbled on that thread. I think the most difficult thing about that project is the box. No one has seemed to nail one down, or offered one for sale. But if you use an HV20 or the like with HDMI out, that is an awesome project.

They had the aluminum box template that was feasible to make with a little bit of time and effort. I read through the entire thing and learned quite a few things about the different sizes and advantages, as well as the diffculties in mounting... and the success of course. Mounting in the aluminum frame from a framer's shop seems like a viable solution... as long as you can get the pieces cut exactly to what you need....

This is my 7.2" DIY monitor.

Maybe not a beauty or small, but thats due to the controller, bigger than the screen. BUT it works like a charm :)

I just bought a portable DVD player with an 8.5" screen that has both analog video/audio in as well as USB in. Will use it as an external monitor for my DVX100a.

It also has digital audio out, so it can output 5.1 surround sound if connected to a suitable home theater or stereo system.

Price: $109.95 at Circuit City

(in a mail regarding the Sharp 7.2" WXGA)

"Unfortunately we have sold out this LCD panel and Controller Set. But believe me, this set is not perfect for Your use with the Canon XH-A1. Backlight of this panel needs 24V and the controller is with 12V. You need 2 different voltages.
But I have searched very hard for a LCD, that meets perfectly the needs for use as camera display. I have found it, it`s a 8.9inch, WXGA 1280x768, 16:10, contrast rates: 400:1, brightness: 300, response time: under 10ms !!!!!!!, need only 12V supply, with one word, it is perfect!
I just let produce the controllers with new firmware and I will offer it in 2-3 weeks in the Shop. With a very reasonable price!"

If the inputs that are needed are there, why not :)
I dont know what is needed for HVX200 though, I guess it does component which is the best bet for this?

Ya it does component, but I'm not sure if it will display correctly. If someone can find out that we can use these for the HVX200's and it will display 1080p... then we can save a fortune. I'm afraid something is not right though.

Does anyone know if it'll work?
