Final Cut 3 on an Intel Mac

Would I be able to run Final Cut Pro v.3 on an Intel Mac? I have been running it on an 867 mhz G4 and am going to get a new Mac Pro. Can I load the Final Cut Pro 3 and access projects I now have?

You should be fine to run V3 on the intel mac. I would recommend upgrading to a newer version if you want all the new bells and whistles though. Without a newer version of Final Cut you are missing out on most of the advantages of the new MBpro's

When you upgrade Final Cut should prompt you to upgrade your previous files to the newer version.

Are you wanting to edit in HD?

What OS are you running? FCP 3 won't be run natively, if it runs at all. Rosetta will have step in to power FCP and that will greatly reduce the applications speed.

FCP 3 will not run on an Intel Mac. The processor type is completely different than what it was written for. It is VERY old software...came out when OS9 was the main OS, and OS 10 JUST came out.

IT won't work.

To the contrary, FCP3 probably won't install on an Intel Mac, much less run or run reliably.

You will need FCS2.

Thanks to everybody for their response. I have multiple projects that I keep on external firewire drives, such as my reel, that I modify continually. When I upgrade to an Intel Mac, and FCS2, I assume I will be able to open the previously created projects and then save them in a newer version. Is this correct?

I also use the Bias brand audio applications Peak DV v3.1 and Deck v4. Does anyone know if these apps will work on an Intel Mac?
