Totally loved this film.. my kind of humor.. I love that he thinks he could beat himself up.. I've had similar thoughts Fun film. Good concept. Nice execution.
Very funny film. I liked the dynamics between the main characters. The guy with the hat sounded like Randall from Clerks. The idea of their alternate selves having mustaches is hilarious.
Some of the details of the time travel were confusing, but since it was a comedy, it didn't bother me much.
Everything was shot fine, but I think you could have a lot more interesting shots. I think that some over-the-shoulder shots and just more variety would have helped the look of the film. The sequence at about 3:45 minutes in is better than most, but the framing could have been cleaner. Watch the framing of medium shots, close-ups, and OTS shots in a feature film. I think that would be a good place to start.
You can definitely get more shallow focus shots from the camera, you have a great one at 4:28. I think more shots like this would make your film look more professional.
Your story was solid, and your writing was funny. The filming was capable, but I think you could take it a lot further. Great job, and I look forward to more!
It's a funny one for sure! My favorites are how they refer to themselves in the future, "Mustachio James", and the ending. The cut to 40 years later was perfect. I was thouroughly amused.
I liked the story, and most of the writing, (you have tons of great lines in there!) but I thought you could've told a lot more of the story visually, rather than through dialog. Obviously, the exposition parts need dialog, (some could use tightening) but the whole scene when they first see their future selves might have been more exciting if they had to be quiet and and use only sign language and looks to communicate. Then let the camera tell the story for a while with some kind of zoom-in shot to the moustaches, and a shot of their reactions. I'm just throwing out ideas here but I wanted... More sneaky sneaky...
One other element missing for me was some camera movement. Even just a small pan or tilt I think would really spice things up.
I'm looking forward to more work from you. Keep it up!
Ok, so the acting was bad, but I’m sure that has to do with the cheesy dialog. It definitely had some funny moments that made me laugh. I wish you put a little more into the ending, but I’m not sure what that could have been.
Shot wise, I think the camera angles/placements could have been a little more interesting. They were one dimensional and quite simple. I dig the music. Specially the 80’s arcade musica. J
In the past few days, DVXusers Ben Sliker and Justin Kuhn sat down and chatted over AIM while simultaneously watching the same TIMEFEST films. We call them, "The AIM sessions". Here's their thoughts on "The Quapooadofdicantpronounceyourtitledsakjfdhsafd Effect."
This is a 'special edition' of the AIM sessions, Assistant Director Brad Mate and 'Woman on Bench' Marie Hartsell have joined the chat from the cast and crew of JAM. This is their seventh "4-person" review.

TheBrad84 (9:33:30 PM): i liked where they were going. good comedy, but the camera work was distracting and if improved coudl have added to rather than detracted from the level of hilarity

happygobo (9:34:43 PM): but this was better it's true
TheBrad84 (9:34:47 PM): and just write funny scripts
happygobo (9:34:55 PM): truthiness
Duff, i think we got most of our points out in the session, but know that there was a lot of funny stuff in this. Keep rockin' man.
Just caught the flick. Really enjoyed it. I think the AIM session says most of it. I really like what you did with Time travel here. Beneath all of the seeming ridiculousness I think this piece does a very good job at talking about an idea of time travel and I appreciate this genre as a tool to discuss it.
I thought the writing was very strong here. The acting was fine for my money but I think their voices sounded weird (I don't know how else to describe it) and I think their timing is off. Which is a hard thing to master exactly for comedy so that shouldn't be that big of an issue for you.
I thought this was a very clever, well written piece that made me laugh and had a suprisingly strong discussion of time travel that was neatly disguised by good ole' fun. GOod work. Can't wait to see more from you.
Comments are spot-on -- I agree with almost all the criticism. Thanks everyone. Haha, I love the AIM chat session, especially how it's unedited and you left Brad's break in. Entertaining and insightful read.
I guess on the top of my 'to-do' list for next fest is: get a cinematographer and a casting director. Although I'm moving to Korea for a year in August, so that might prove to be difficult.
I'm glad people enjoyed the music -- I'll be sure to pass it on to the band.
I figure everything has already been said since this is the last day and all. There were several funny parts, the acting could use work, good story. I like time paradoxes. Good job and good luck!
