FEATURE: NO GREATER LOVE - Official Thread - Feature Film

Aha. Thanks. So that's it. I didn't know that. So actually it doesn't matter if the edit was done on FCP or AVID, it would still be an added advantage to take the final edit to a post house and have the movie re-mixed.

Exactly. Plus they have toys we can't easily replicate on our NLEs.

Hey Adam, thanks for jumping in there!

Yeah, taking it to a studio just offers a better overall quality to your product... if you can do it.

Turn of events!

Turn of events!

Hey all....

So, on Monday we sent the trailer for NGL out to several distributors... well, the next day we received a call from one pretty influential company... and they wanted to see a rough cut, so on Wednesday I delivered a rough cut to them, they watched it and loved it... yesterday (Thursday) afternoon Russ (Exec. Producer) and Brad (Writer/Director) met with the company and they came to an agreement...

We'll update once we can share more details... how's that for a tease? hehe

:)

Congratulations! Very encouraging news! How fast things can change! When you have a good product. This is great news for everyone who watched this thread and wished you well.

Just saw the trailer. WOW!! VERY impressive.

Definitely one of the better trailers I've seen, including all the Hollywood stuff that's released. You all should be very proud. This film looks incredible!!!

Good luck and congratulations on the recent news.

Man, I'm surprised people aren't offering Brandon more kudos. I mean, look, we don't need smoke blown up our collective asses, but Brandon and his team have done a wonderful thing here - they've made a meaningful movie that actually got distribution.

If you like what they have done show some support! This guy has gone and done what precious few will ever do!

Wow guys, thanks so much! We're hoping to release more info to everyone soon!

Tonight we're having a focus group of about 25 people view the film, and give us their comments after...

I'm rendering the cut out right now in fact.... let's hope it goes well! :)

Good luck with the focus group bud!

Thanks dude, yeah I hope everyone likes it.

And hey Geoff, at some point could you maybe explain to everyone how you approached this film in terms of visual style and shots?

I think everyone here would find that very interesting... you opened my eyes to some things I had never thought of before.

Well, I think just about everyday on set we had a new conversation concerning visual style and cinematography..

From the get go, it was decided that we wanted this film to have a visual style that was more akin to traditional dramatic pieces rather than a christian film. We also needed the visuals to differ from scene to scene because many of the same locations are used throughout the film. I didn't want the environments to feel overused.. so each scene had to be shot in a very specific manner. Rather than focus on coverage, it became a rule to figure out what each scene represented emotionally for our character and stem the visuals from that. In this manner, some scenes are covered more closely with mediums and tights while others are played out in one long, carefully executed shot. Brad (the director), Brandon and I spent a great deal of time developing the final shot list. Sometimes on set, new ideas would pop up and we'd take advantage of them but for the most part, the shot list was our best friend.

A lot of my work (not personal) has me shooting in a pure visual sense to tell the story; music videos and commercials. In those situations, there is usually no dialogue, so the story is told visually. I've always been a firm believer in "talk less, show more"... With NGL, it's a dialogue driven film and the dialogue is much needed to tell the story.. so it became more of a mission to integrate and support the visual storytelling into the narrative elements. This was one of the things we talked about from day one and I feel we did an excellent job at creating a sense of balance.

Geoff, thanks for that insight, awesome stuff... hopefully that'll start some good conversation here!

On another note, we had a focus group showing tonight with about 14 people who hadn't seen the film... some of them had seen the trailer... but anyway, everyone really seemed to like the film... it played really well.

I enjoyed it a lot as well, as I hadn't seen it as a whole for awhile. I saw a few spots we can smooth some of the transitions out, and one or two places we could possibly tighten up, but overall the pacing, and flow worked for me, and I felt the story came through really well...

It's amazing what a difference it makes to view your film with people who've never seen it before... you actually watch it differently.

All in all very encouraging tonight! It's back to the edit bay on Monday to make some tweaks, but they're minor things :)

Good looking stuff Brandon. I'm also looking at doing something along this line one day. Go with the new woman or back to the wife/girlfriend who hurt you but you still love. And on top of that now she's changed/found God/realized her mistake etc. I like the premise. Tell me when it's out, I'll do my best to grab one.
