Scarlet w/DoF adapter

The Scarlet 3K from Red is going to have a fixed lens is it not? anyone know any specs of the lens, what diameter it will be, and if a standard DoF adapter such as a letus extreme will fit on the front of it?

No clue of the diameter. But here is the small amount of info from the red site;

"8X T2.8 RED ZOOM LENS"

I think Dennis from Cinevate mentioned that they will be working on a DoF adapter for it.

Fair enough. Id rather not shell out for yet another DoF adapter though. Heres hoping the guys over at Letus either make a LEX adapter for it, or at least make the Ultimate compatible so i can justify buying it!!

I think that 3k resolution may pose some problems as well, as the focusing screen is going to have to be that much smoother in order to avoid noticing imperfections...I would think anyway.

That's definitely to be seen, about the resolution. Although if I recall properly it's been said that they're all ready for 3k no problem.

I wouldn't doubt that Letus will have an adapter for Scarlet's thread-size. That's why the system exists, so it can be adapted to whatever camera used.

Keep in mind the Scarlet's DOF will be about the same as what you get when you shoot 16mm film. I can definitely see times where you'd want the 35mm DOF, but 16mm is nothing to sneeze at, either. I'll definitely shoot without an adapter at times, depending on the project.

The lens is supposed to be a T/2.8 zoom with a range of 7.2-57.6 mm which equates to the field of view of about 28-224 in 35mm full-frame terms.

What's good is that the lesn is supposed to be able to hold aperture throughout the zoom range. With most of the cameras we're using with adapters now we have to zoom in to the point where the stock lens is stopped down to 2.8 anywaay. So we won't be losing too much light by using Scarlet with an adapter as opposed to another HD camera.

I saw this the other day but cannot find the thread, I think it was Barry that posted but 3k is about how much more res vs full 1080?

1080 is a little less than 2K resolution. And 3K is 1.5 times the resolution of 2K in both the vertical and horizontal directions. If you take 1.5 and square it you get 2.25. So 3K is at least 2.25x the resolution of 1080p .

well I lean something new everyday, damn you BandPro for telling me false information!
does the iris move when you zoom on the lens?

Thanks for keeping it real Berry!

A very good point - my HV20 gets down to f/2.4 by the time I'm zoomed in where I need to be on my 35mm adapter, and I guarantee the Scarlet will be a heck of a lot more light-sensitive than the HV20. Hopefully the Mysterium X chip will have the same ISO 320 baseline with ISO 400 and 500 being almost as clean like in the Red One.

No it doesn't. It ramps like all low-cost zooms do. It just doesn't TELL you that it's ramping, but it is.

Really? This seems to contradict everything I've read.

If this is really the case, what is its true f-stop at full telephoto and how does the camera cover up the ramping? Does it kick gain in or something or does the image just go dark?
