Remote follow focus for £150/$300

Well i dont want to say anything too specific. It unfortunatly isnt £150/$300 anymore. Its just not possible with the features ive given it. It is however a bargain of a lifetime. I want to help you lot out, as an indie film maker and a steadicam operator its frustrating to have to spend more on a follow focus than the camera, so my follow focus is designed to be as feature-full as possible and as cost effective as possible. I will give more pricing info when I have a more solid idea of the costs involved in building it....

Well damn! Can you give us any idea on pricepoint and expected delivery so that us anxious dvxusers can start planning on purchasing this puppy?

Hocus-Focus... hmm sounds too hocus-pocus. You need some numbers in there... and lots of letters.. like the HFX-Pro... or something like that
Hmm. What about the Fine Focus?

Good question.

Well all i need to do is put all the bits together and sort the mount out.

Id say 80 percent done. I will upgrade it to 85 in afew days when the firmware works...

Im more than confident it will be a very good product. Its going to be endurance tested for two weeks before I sell it so it will last forever.

I
We did think about maybe the Hocus-Focus :-D

Ha, love that name.
I always liked it when great stuff got a great name.
Not something like HFC-2000X that sounds like a Asian car or a....
...er ... a vacuum cleaner.

Give it a name with character. Hocus Focus would be just great.

Best... name... ever...

Seriously.

Really excited to get one when they are ready. Is there any provision for reversing focus direction to deal with Nikon (primarily) lenses? Or will an idler gear still be the preferred method?

Quick update,

Just hungup the iChat to David the lasercutting guy, and he has invented a new feature that I thought I should tell you about.

Its a latch so when you pull the sprung motor mount away from the lens to change lenses, it latches back so its not in the way. Think of it as the swingaway feature on a mattebox. Theres a little button underneath that you press and it releases the latch and the gear is engaged again.

Looks pretty good so far, looking forward to seeing how the rest of the mount comes out...

Hello again,

Quick update,

I have just been speaking with the people that make some of the radio components. Because of laws and radio frequencies, there will be two models, one is USA, one is the rest of the world. The USA one uses a differnt frequency to the rest of the world.

Only country that I cant sell this to at the moment is Japan. We are working on a module that works with an open frequency but at the moment there is no way to make it legal in Japan.

If you were desperate, you could buy it anyway and hope no one catches you, but thats on your own head.

What frequency is the usa on and world one on? What about for the rest of north america ;).

The computer programmer guy is sitting on the train right now doing the firmware, so that will be working tomorrow with abit of luck.

I am to have a fully working wireless prototype within a week.
