Im looking for a new computer to edit on. i will be using speed edit by new tek. I wanted a computer withe pcmcia slot built it. Im pretty sure dell computers do not have this slot. Who does?

Barry,

For those of us interested in using a desktop computer without a PCMCIA slot, how would something like THIS work? Too slow? Would it work with P2?

The link you sent doesn't look like the right link...

What you can do with a desktop is get a proper pci to pcmcia adapter. There are several for pc's that will work (none that I know of for a mac). spec-comm makes one. You can find others as well. Needs to work with type II 32 bit pcmcia.

Jason

Gotcha. So.... If I have a Mac (Quad G5 Tower), and I want to ingest P2 cards... I am S.O.L.?

That seems a rather odd predicament... Who's the marketing genius who came up with that one? Can I just ingest via the firewire port of the camera? And if not, WTF?

I mean, W... T... F...?

[EDIT - BTW, thanks for the reply, Jason.]

The simplest, easiest, best option for a G5 tower is the PCD20 5-slot reader, connected through FW800. It's not free, but it'll do the job better than anything else, and it'll work on your G5.

If you want a major manufacturer laptop (like Dell or HP) with a CardBus slot, you will need to choose their large business option, since they offer more "legacy" options.
