FAT MONSTER FILMS presents "O2" ... Every. Breath. Counts.

Yes I am still here. Can't seem to leave. I am like that annoying party guest who no one invited and just seems to have shown up and you can't get rid of him no matter how hard you try. Make sure you take lots of coffee and/or coke (either form at this point ) and I wish you the best of luck. I really can;t wait to see this film. Now I really AM going to bed...

So Mark, do you see a feature down the road for Fat Monster?

(this has probably been covered a few times already in this thread)

edit - Yep, already been discussed. Thanks, search function!

Hi Drew! Nice to see you still up tonight.

Here's a shot of Brad Semenoff mixing the soundtrack tonight for O2:

Looks sweet.

What does a sound editor do differently than a normal editor (other than the very obvious)?

Is it adding foley and that sort of thing, or are they actually cutting the dialog to the locked picture? ...and if so, how do you give them all of the audio files?

Brad is a real pro. He added countless elements (ship sounds, doors, footsteps etc.) and mixed levels along with the final score. He produced a 5.1 surround sound track that totally kicks balls to the wall!!! Get your subwoofer hooked up!

How do you do your compression? I was looking through all of the LoveFest films to get a feel for the quality of compression, and Where the Heart Lies looked great.

Are you going to be able to fit a quality 5.1 mix in the 50mb? (not doubting your abilities)

We've got some serious notes from Zak Forsman, who is an acknkowledged compression expert. Also, Blaine has been tirelessly devoting himself to compression strategies as well. So, I just stand aside and let those who know have at it.

Looks amazing, FATMOFO's. I still have the spaceship Mark downloaded onto my laptop. Sooo, basically we found an excuse to use the same exact spaceship in our short. It has nothing to do with space, but we will definitely be owning you and your puny production.

Johnson, I still cant get over how surprisingly spectacular you were on the piano at that ridonkulously nice house we went to.

Now excuse me while I seethe away.

I finished my share of effect shots finally. I'm uploading the final shot, sending Mark a link, and hitting the hay. Thank God I work nights :D

NateCaauwe is the man. Fat Monster Films is so damn fortunate to have true VFX mavens in both Nate and Gord Taylor. I have decided, what the hell, I'm giving both of them an extra caribou carcass this week.

You guys are forever my heroes.

Dude... I miss you man! Here's a smilie synopsis of that night... :cheesy::undecided:lipsrseal:huh::evil::embarasse:grin::thumbsup:

FM crew... you guys rock... I'd sign on for a domestic partnership with FM any day... Mark... you really ARE The Dude... but even better in person.

I'm chewing my fingernails off today... it was TRULY an honor to be a small part of the FM machine.

Justin, your score is AMAZING!!! Tim got back with the soundtrack and it rocks.

We're definitely pulling an all-nighter. A whole herd of effects shots are in progress and will have to be dropped into the timeline. Most of them are pretty mundane and we still seem to be on track.

Ssccwweeet! Glad you liked it. :)

Of course, I would have love to spend more "TIME" on it... Perhaps if the opportunity presents itself and you win the lottery, we could have an orchestra play the dang thing! :)

Looking forward to everyone checking out your film.

I cut dialog using an OMF from Tim's FCP session. I also used a lot of alt takes to fix bad lines, etc. That part was made a lot easier thanks to Matt's extensive production sound notes. And yes, Matt, I did read all of your notes and anecdotes. On a side note, I wanted to thank Matt for doing a great job with the production sound and recording extensive wild takes for audio. Those were a HUGE help!!

Like Mark said, I then cut in all of the hard effects and backgrounds: spaceship sounds, big flying things, cloth rustle, etc. Finally I added some sound design elements to sweeten Justin's incredible score and we ended up with something similar to the final product. I'm pretty proud of the way that it turned out and I'm anxious to hear what people have to say about the film.

Fun O2 Post Sound Trivia!
11 Dialog Tracks
12 Background Tracks
24 FX Tracks

The sounds of the ship are partly comprised of recordings that I made of my clothes washer, my refrigerator, and traffic sounds, though I doubt that anyone will recognize them.

Whew! For us this was finishing ahead of time!

We've been trying different compression recipes to squeeze out the best possible picture to accompany this amazing sound track. We're going to try a couple more tweaks and then slide into home with our upload.

Thanks everyone who put in so much hard work (and especially Matty G. for staying up all night with us).

Unfortunately, we have to get back to the real world again. We've got a forensic case that we're going to be going to San Pedro on as soon as we finish our upload. Sigh. But we gotta pay the bills.
