Hello,

I'v got a new DVX100B and am starting to shoot a project myself and I'm having trouble finding the settings to properly hook up a Sony WCS-999 wirless lav to the camera. I tried to hook it into the first input, but it did not record sound. Can anyone please take me through steps in the camera settings to properly hook it up? The manual just doesn't seem to give the details, I'm sure it's very easy to do but I'm still in the learning phase.

Thank you!!:)

Actually I think it belongs here...

Ok

1/ Check the switches for input one and input two (on the left side of the lense) are both set to mic?

2/Under the LCD

a/ If its the only signal input:
on CH 1 Select - set to Input 2. on ch 2 select - set to input 2.

Now plug the wireless system into input 2.

b/ If its one of two incoming signals

plug into either input one or two and make sure the relevant ch switch under the lcd is set to that input.

Hope that helps. If it doesnt you may have another issue.

Long answer...... yes or no.

At least Sennheiser G2 can put out both high level signals (line) and low level signals (mic), actually it is adjustable to in-between values also.

If the reciever has line level outs (I would think all higher quality recivers do) it is better to use that, as that way you bypass the mic pre-amps in camera or recorder (there was alredy one in the transmitter). If not, then mic inputs of course.

Sorry yes thats true however he is using the Sony WCS-999 which is on the lower end.

Petrus, thanks for the info!

One more + for line level signals: less interference. Line level signals are 100000 to million times stronger than mic level signals, much more immune to outside interference.

Just a thought...if you switch your wireless to output "line" level audio...doesnt' it eat the batteries faster since the unit needs to feed a higher level out to the camera?

I am thinking of buying the G2 tomorrow.. I thought at 450.00 here in vancouver it would be of good value. (never used wireless before)

im going to have try this on my azden 500. will the audio sound better?
:dankk2:

Well I have used my G2 now all last weekend in the 24 hour film race and find it works extremely well.. I have no complaints. I recommend it.

I put the wireless G2 on Line two and so the interviewee gets picked up by the g2 and the internal mic still works and picks up ambient noise which I lower by 30 percent in FCP so it ends up being a nice mix.

i tried the line trick on my azden 500 and it dont work. it would work when i put line on the reciever but not when i changed from mic to line on the cam itself.

Also what frequency range is best?

I got it used here and it was a steal. It did come with new cable and new mic. I am really happy with it - sound transfer is incredible.

Freq is set on 656.025
