different looks achieved by changing frame rate/shutter speed

Hi :)

Could anyone post some shots they took on the DVX where the frame rate and/or shutter speed have been changed to get slow motion/fast motion/more motion blur/less motion blurr; and also include their settings?

I will post some pretty soon.

I have turned my shutter off, but that was just for shooting cityscapes on a tripod at night. I will use all the way from 1/1000 to off. I just try to get as shallow a depth of field as I can with the stock lens. shutter 1/24, f1.6, full zoom. I was too lazy to light it so I just opened the shutter all the way.

lighting isn't great, but it's pretty shallow for the stock dvx lens

or even this one, 1/1000, f1.6, full zoom and like master ped +15

and yes that is a light blood splatter on his face.

Hey Will, it's impossible to be at F1.6 AND full zoom. As you zoom in, the iris closes. At full zoom, the iris is down to F2.8. You can get all the way to Z50 at F2.0, but it closes fast after that.

really. My dvx reads zoom 99 and iris open. Is it calling open just the most open it can be even when it is closing a little bit?

OPEN means different things at different zoom levels. Try this, go to full wide zoom and set the iris to F1.6 or F1.7 instead of OPEN. Then, zoom in and watch the F stop change as you zoom. Enjoy.

This is a reason that when shooting it's good to understand what range of the zoom you plan to use in advance and plan your aperture to go with it. If you only will use Z00-50, then it's most consistent to shoot the whole thing at F2.0, so the exposure doesn't change from shot to shot. If you need the full zoom range, shoot everything at F2.8... or shoot most of it at F2.8 and and your wider shots at F2.0 with a .3 ND filter on. Exposure will still be consistent, but you get a nudge of shallower depth of field on the wides.

What's the best place to look for a discussion of the interactivity (on the HVX) of aperture, frame rate, shutter speed, and zoom. I'm getting the impression that zoom affects aperture and frame rate affects shutter speed, but I don't think I've seen anything that discusses all of these factors in a cohesive way.

In addition to this forum, I have Barry's DVDs and his book.

Thanks!

Did you use a 35mm adapter for the second image? It actually looks good, the depth of field.
