How to get my video from the camera to my computer?

Hello all,

I know I am about to sound very ignorant to most of you (Please go easy on me) ... However I am brand new to filmmaking and I have a DVX100A. I am just learning how to use my camera and well ... ok ... everything. I thought it would be fun to make some short films so here I am. Everyone has to start some where. Once I have captured some footage how do I get it into my computer? Is there an extra piece of equipment I need or a cord? Would Final Cut Express handle the files? I have a MacBook Pro and an external hardrive too ... I'm completely new to everything and just needing a little help to figure out the basics so I can begin playing. Please Help!

You'll need a firewire cable from the camera to the computer. 4 pin to 6 pin.

And yes, Final Cut Express will handle the video for you. You'll want to go through the manual and learn how to capture the video from the camera then you'll be ready to start editing.

You may want to visit the FCP forum for more answers.

Final Cut Express will "handle" the footage, but not in the best way -- it doesn't support 24p. It may not matter for your early experimenting, but as you progress, you're going to want to edit in 24p.

As David said, FCE won't remove the 24p pulldown. But as a 1st step it should give you an opportunity to play around with your footage and learn to edit. Eventually, you'll want to upgrade to Final Cut Pro.
