Audio problem with component out to Marshall monitor

I've noticed that I get an audio buzz when I have a mic in the XLR input and a monitor plugged in to the component output. When I plug in a mic in the XLR (1 or 2)input and set it to 'line' or 'mic', I get this buzz thru my headphones. It's less pronounced in 'mic' mode, but It is still there. As soon as I unplug the component cable from the HVX the noise goes away. I've tried running my Marshall monitor on batteries and with a power supply, but it didn't work. My only thought its that it could be a bad component cable. Any thoughts would be appreciated before I pop for a $50 cable.

Best Regards

Sounds like a ground loop problem or a bad cable. Ground loops are based off of 60hz cycles and sound less pronounced than the buzz of a bad cable. One other thought that I had was the 48volt phantom power. I have had a buzz occur with a mixer preamp that was being sent phantom...don't know how this could cause a buzz in your case but thought I would mention it.

Happy trouble shooting.

I think the most likely thing is the component cable acting as an antenna and picking up extra RFI. Are you talking about the D4 cable included with the camera?

Yes, I am talking about the D4 to the Marshall monitor. It doesn't sound like radio interference or a 60hz hum, but more of a scratchy buzz sound which stops as soon as I unplug the D4 cable. As far as a ground loop, it will make the noise regardless if it is on plug or battery power. I've never stressed that cable either

Thanks for your help.

Same Problem with the Buzz with an external Monitor. This Happens on 2 different cameras:

"We have tried multiple component cables, even S video with no luck.

Its not with the XLR intputs either. You can hear it whether its on channel 1 and 2 or whether its on internal mic, its just slightly in the back.

The problem seems to occur only when plugged in to a monitor in any fashion. Even if the monitor is unplugged from a power source."

any other ideas anyone?

So if you have no mic plugged in, you're still getting buzz? With more than one kind of monitor? And it goes away immediately when you unplug the monitor? Can you post a .wav of the buzzing?

Ground loops are still possible even in a system without an earth ground. Are you running everything on batteries?

If we can't figure this out soon, it may be a job for the service department.

The camera Barak talks about is our camera, with nothing plugged in i can hear a slight buzz but as soon as you plug in a monitor (we tried both panasonic and sony) a buzz kicks in. Whether through component or S-video we still get the buzz. Its almost like the monitor is amplifing the noise.

We tried running everything on battery and still get the buzz in question.

Two different cameras are doing this and we have sent one off to repair in hopes that they can figure it out.

i posted up a quick vid showing the problem. Feel free to take a listen though i reccomend turning down your speakers a bit prior to viewing.

there is an issue with the 16 and 32GB cards on the p2.......this issue causes a buzzing on recording...
if you are using a 16 or 32GB card contact your nearest panalogic dealer for service...

Ian, did you get your buzz problem figured out and fixed by Panasonic? I'm talking with their tech people and they say they haven't heard of this problem before in conjuction with the beep problem. Thanks in advance.
