I Frickin' Love Kiss

Hey, Kissrolled! But seriously, I'm curious - why do people like Kiss? I mean, I know millions and millions do, but I've never personally talked to anybody who is/was into Kiss. I'm not passing judgment at all - different strokes for different folks, tastes differ, subjective stuff and all that. I just want to know - WHAT EXACTLY is the appeal? I try very hard to understand mass appeal in stuff I don't get - f.ex. I personally despise C&W, but I've listened to it, and I think I understand why those who love it do so. Same with heavy metal - the appeal is understandable. But Kiss? It would seem that heavy metal fans should not really be into them since Kiss is pretty weak sauce from that point of view not to mention kinda laughable (which is the "kiss of death" to a fan of Megadeath - ha, I made some puns :)). Can someone clue me in to the appeal?

I guess it's a "you had to be there in the beginning" kind of thing. I remember when the very first KISS record came out...and here were these guys wearing makeup, so no one knew who they were...dressed like comic book characters...breathing fire...spitting blood..explosions...great lights...LOUD...hard rockin' music.

It was the early 70's and I was jamming with friends in my basement listening to Sweet, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heap...and Richie Blackmore.

Then...along came KISS:
"I want to Rock & Roll all night...and party everyday!"

Just had to be there....

awesome, that guy did a really good job putting that together :)

KISS has a couple songs I quite like, but I'm not really a fan, however I can understand how other people could be into them. Particularly the make up and live show. I mean, I'm 23 and I've grown up around bands like Mudvayne and Slipknot and Mr. Bungle and whoever else, and that whole thing you can easily trace back to KISS.

I bought mine at the same time.

Anybody still have their Kiss Army membership card or sticker?

Well, I mean, which album out of all albums I bought first. Of course, it was 30 years ago and it could have been Macho Man, for all I know. I was six.

oh, gotcha. I just remember that because I saved forEVER to buy those. Don't remember exactly how old I was, but the first Kiss album had been out for a couple of years. I wanted Destroyer because it had a cooler cover, but the first one was all the store in my neighborhood had. Turned out to be a pretty good album.

My first album was Destroyer, followed by Love Gun. I still remember going into my mom's bedroom crying one night because I regretted trading my Kiss belt buckle for...I dunno what.
