i dont know who the fck this guy is and im certainly not a fan of his work but i do admit i dont know what the problem with it is. the point of it, i mean. i understood it perfectly. one question tho, your narration. what made you chose to use old footage? the point of women being dominate for years? i just thought your voice was too.."modern' for old footage like that. id like to see it done with updated footage

Uh, you live in a bubble, I take it. I agree with your last sentence however incomplete it is, but to take only what happens naturally is to disregard Machiavelli's dictum concerning fate that "sometimes a woman must be taken by storm", not a sexist statement, but an acknowledgment that one can strive instead of remaining passive. That man can choose to take risks.

To only take what happens naturally sounds like a recipe for extinction.

Nor does it evoke understanding of how humans think which is more complex than a 'this or that'.
 
Having watched "Because Of Sex"...and understanding what you were trying to do with it...It really didn't click with me...didn't catch my attention. (Please don't be angry...I've read this whole thread)

I MUCH prefer "Elmer's Got A Girlfriend" (I'll never stop humming that tune)...and "Lunky Business" to name a couple. These are GREAT!

Keep up the good work...and by all means, keep pushing the boundries!

Now here's a guy I don't mind disagreeing with me, I like his 'tude, and agree there doesn't seem to be much reason not to get the point.

As to using old footage I got 2 reasons: 1) I can't afford to license film and archive.org is a wonderful resource for public domain footage. 2) The film "The Wild Women of Wongo" seemed perfectly suited for me to twist to represent some archetypical male/female things. The film is not at all the way I represent it in my film... though maybe just a little.

Grrr!...just kidding! If it doesn't work for you it doesn't work for you. I wouldn't say I'm completely satisfied with any film I've made, either, much less every one.

I don't mind your criticism and appreciate the encouragement.

I don't care who you think you are. But fact of the matter is you pretend to be the **** because you put together some "public domain" footage into a montage tied together with a loosely based, and sad attempt at humor, voice over. Need I remind you that this is an internet forum?

Your personal 'tude (as you call it) does not warrant people to give you the time of day. The first poster simply stated why he didn't like it and you take it personally. I jump in defending him and stating my own opinion of the work.

If you don't want people to comment on your masterpiece, then don't post. If it is art and everyone is supposed to understand it as such, why aren't people getting the general idea. There is something fundamentally wrong if people miss the meaning entirely.

Slaves want freedom? So being a man, I want sex to live? Yes, I like sex. It's fun, romantic (depends on context) but do I need it to live? Well, I haven't been with a woman in a few months...I am still quite alive.

Basically, step off your box and stop being so childish. Yes, am I engaging in this? Won't deny the truth. But you need to adjust your attitude to make it anywhere in this world we call film. I know far too many people who have lost their jobs, and cannot get hired because they A) messed up or B) pissed the wrong person off.

If a producer disagrees with you and you call him or her an idiot. I can assure you that you will find it next to impossible to sell your idea.

Coming from the real world? You need an attitude readjustment.
 
I thought it was interesting until you started narrating..

Then I thought it started being 'not good'. It was an interesting idea to critique sex and how woman use it to their advantage via the imagery and sound bites of old films.

You're narration just felt like it dumbed it down a shade.

I would have held the film in much higher appreciation without the narration.

Then again.. it comes off less as a film.. and more as a poem spoken aloud.

Not terrible, but a slice away from great.

Why stop there?

Why just settle for a new genre of film? Why not take the entire art world, and humanity in general, by storm and invent your own fresh art form?

Third I made the point of watching some of your films after reading of course your pointless rantings on here about creating a new style of film and how your soaring with the eagles and Matt should throw out his film book 101 etc etc..

So On your page I got to SNAKE and the part where you got trashed talked with your GF on the street and felt the need to drop the N bomb and because I mistook your delivery ( Until I went back and watched the poorly delivered "Noooo") for Racism. I made the mistake of posting to hastily then understood what you meant and erased it.

As far as talent goes you've never seen any of my stuff so how can you say I'm talentless ? you yell at other people for not posting statements they can back up about your own work...well that has to be one of the emptiest insults ever because you have no basis to form any kind of actual opinion, so how could you say it with such confidence I wonder ? simple it's another emotionally fueled, not well thought out statement by Elmer....since you like to pride yourself on how intelligent you are it's funny how you can make such a claim.

If you'd like to fly (or drive) to toronto..I can meet you at the airport.. and say it to your face if you'd really prefer.... but that is an extraordinary amount of work on your part. And I don't care enough to spend money to meet you in person.. a bit of a quagmire I guess.

Elmer, how's it doing mate. We Aussies take things so much less serious. Reading this thread has just done my head in big time. You really coped a hiding, man that sucks. You watch the film and its real simple, you like it or you don't. Take it for what it is, but what saddens me over this is that you have been slammed for something that you shouldn't of. Its not Cannes or Tribecca or a Holywood Premier, yet people critique like it is,,,, some folks just need to get a life.

I've been hangin round this forum for a bit and the more I read, the more people have gotta chill out and not take stuff too serious or is this forum really just a place for bitter wanna be film critics??? I dunno, my head is rollin around the floor. This is supposed to be a fun place I thought. Way to many wankers here.

I'll say it again, I like the film Elmer, as I like all your work.

Be cheaper if we went via Greyhound bus.. you'd get a nice relaxing view of the country side.. would have time to do some prep work.. like wrist exercises.. want to make sure you have a full range of motion for slapping.
