Do I need a licence to film a wedding in UK?

I have a DVX100b bought last month and need the money so wanted to do some freelance weddings...
I've just been reviewing some wedding websites and one company says it has a licence to film weddings!
Wow what are the chances of me being able to film some weddings.
I am planning on letting the people know that I only have experience in films and not weddings therefore I'll make it very cheap for them.

I don't think you need a license to film weddings if you're commissioned by whoever is in charge of the wedding, for instance, the family of the bride and/or groom. but don't quote me on it, better find out for sure by consulting a local authority on the issue.

Thanks you 2 :).. I think you could be right...one of the videographers chargin £850 had pixelation in their picture gallery's of videos so I feel confident in doing my own...though I think I need practise first...maybe shadow someone in the uk...I've sent a few emails out :)

If you film a wedding you will need PPL and also MPCS if you plan to dub over the film with commercial music, The IOV (just Google)has a good website all about the subject. I did wedding for 2 years but I did get asked for the PPL and MPCS but only once all I would say is have it in writing that the customer is responsible for the licensing as you would not want to turn up at a church and not be able to film the wedding day because of the License??

Wait -- in the UK you can actually be barred from shooting a wedding if you don't have a license to do it?

If you film a wedding at the request of the person who is organizing it, and if the church were it takes place has no objection to it being filmed, I don't think there would be any requirement for a licence. As has previously been mentioned, there may be issues relating to the use of copyrighted music, if any is used or recorded.

I checked out IOV, but I'm not clear on this -- is anyone going to ask you before or during the wedding if you have a PPL?

Thanks I'll look into the PPL...But technically a PPL to me is a Private Pilot's Licence and I'm 35 hours into that...and I never knew you have persmission to use commecial music on your videos...:)
