'film' grading, A1 + Letus Extreme

my fault. this should do it.

The Hue is not something i considered. Just toying what that after grading dramatically altered the look of the footage and removed the magenta cast. I may still be a long way aways from getting the best look possible but i think this is already an improvement on the previous one.

So much for giving it a rest...

There are so many blogs on that ProLost. Looks like i have some reading to do...

Found the one on Secondary color correction. Unfortunately for me, i have neither a mac, Color, or eyes to make out what is on that low resolution video.

What happens when i select a tone in CS3, the area becomes very pastel like and blocky. Need to find me a CS3 secondary tutorial.

Wow reem, posted that seconds before, i guess we had the same thing in mind :)

that's not too shabby reem. Would you suggest doing the hue prior to or after the curve adjustment? I.E. get rid of the magenta and the curve away or vice versa? I notice it has an effect on the image.

I've never used curves, just the 3 way color wheel and magic bullet color to isolate trouble areas when I want to adjust certain sections.

For the face, I just isolated it and took the mids ever so slighty into the green blue area to aleviate a little of the pronounced red of the face.

I'm still kind of color illiterate but I just correct to my liking.

Oh, also wanted to mention that the sgpro for some reason or another effects color on the a1 in a good way, by warming the colors, making them look more organic.

ya,the sgpro does rock the socks. Right now i can't afford to make any change so the LEX is going to be keeping me company for a while. It still is amazing for the price and looks great when stopped down to F 2.8- F5.6.

I have the distinct feeling that it's not the SGPro at all but the lenses. Has anyone ever done an actual comparison of different adapters without any lenses on them to see what if they can do any sort of 'warming" or "cooling" at all?

Lenses, however, WILL warm or cool your image up based on SEVERAL different factors, not to exclude wear, tear and even technical details like microcontrast.

I think your right koli but what i'm probably seeing more so then the color is the richness of the sgpros texture combined with say a nikon 105mm. the hvx naturly has a very rich texture combined with good color and hence could blend better with adapter footage with the naked lens vrs. the canon a1. But the a1 accompanied with an sgpro brings the organic and rich in color look that the hvx by nature produces.

why not color grade without the adapter and with? see what kind of results you get. maybe start using filters on your lens to get the "natural look" on skins do the rest in post.

The one on top is excellent.

Just what i would love to be able to create. Who's still is it? Would love ot know the specs.

I'm at work now so I'm unable to try the grabs out.. but I often find that if you adjust the shadows with color balance layer (I prefer cyan, but of course it depends on what I want and need) you get these nice "looks".
There's like a "hint" of the color you're adjusting in the picture..

Which sometimes reminds me of the green and blue colors in the Matrix...

Try it out! :D

side question, why can everyone post pics except me? Is there something I am doing wrong? How do you post a picture? HTML?

Papa I pmd you, but this still was shot of a friend of mine with the sgpro using the true color preset and slightly desaturated in post because the adapter added more warmth that wasn't needed do to the true color being already colorful

I think this is a bit better, Used the Truecolor preset with a few adjustments to the gamma and pedestal. Otherwise the same settings.

Much closer, and i think with proper lighting it will get 10 times better. Getting very close.

Here is another reference shot:

Whichbrings me back to my picture standing outside. AS stated, it was slightly over exposed, however using this shot as a reference, you can see the exposure is quite high, especially their skin tones, which have basically a 1:1 contrast ratio on their faces.

Very low saturation as well.

Back to the shot of my dear mother. This is pretty dark close if you ask me. The only down side of boosting the curve so much on the mids/highs is the increased noise (jpg makes it much worse than actually is). Wondering how to compensate when shooting?

Higher exposure on the skin? Or keep the higher noise from boosting in post? Obviously more bounce boards to flatten up the face some..

I would underexpose and bring it up in post. The noise isn't particularly noticeable to me.

Did you just bring up the mids or did you do any other adjustments?
