My first music video with HVX and LETUS EXTREME

Shot it in one day, near an abandoned house. It was 105° outside.
I used a nikon 50mm 1.4 for the handheld shots, and a decent nikon 24-80mm for the jib shots.

Tell me what you think. I'm really proud of it especially for a one day and zero budget production.

hahaha thanks
most people don't like the music, which is understandable.
Glad you like the camera work tho!

Was this done in 24P? The video appears to suffer from a bit of the stutters due to a fast shutter and/or fast motion.

Anyway, congrats on getting your video made

yes.. man that music sucks. NOt bad on the visuals though. the band looks like they are on Disney channel.. maybe like Hanson or something.. and then out pops the growl...
most of this type of music is to cover up that they can't really play and certainly can't sing... man alive, this is the kind of music they could play to POW's to force them to talk. Jesus..

the music has potential.... the vocals are like trying to push slivers of broken glass in my inner ear while trying to break concrete with my forehead, really painfull and sooooo unnecessary.
the kids are actually decent musicians. if they could find... oh i dont know.. A SINGER, they might actually get somewhere.

Well unlike everyone else above, I love this kind of music.. and I really like christian/metal bands so I dug the music. I didn't dig the first section for some reason... it wasn't until you did the different colour correcting with the de-saturating and blue tones that I was thinking "this is what this video should all look like"... but then in the last section where you had the clips become brighter and over saturated, I thought that looked awesome. Not sure what you could have done with the first section... it just didn't seem right to me mood wise. I also thought you might have been able to add in some film clutter or whatever... give it a more edgy look. Plus maybe adding a story would have helped out as well... but overall, great video! I enjoyed it. The jib shots were really cool as well! I'm too scared to use a jib yet for a music video...

I only had the shutter speed up to like 120, but I think that might just be vimeo's compression/streaming or something.

Hey man, looks good. I liked the desaturated look and even some of the vignette looked cool as well (intentional or not).
I actually liked their sound, double kick drum with keyboards, but the vocals are bad.
Nice work on your end.

Hey man thanks for the props! the vignetting comes from this cheap nikon 24-80mm lens I got for free. I think it was originally intended for use on smaller chip digital still cameras that crop the image. But I like the vignetted look, it's much more natural looking to me than the final cut or after effects vignetting filters.

actually from my experience that is one of the worst shutter speeds to use for 24p. go with 1/48th of a second to reduce that "strobing" effect.

Thanks for the advice man! I'll go out and test that tomorrow. With 1/48th do you still get that "hardcore/edgy" look that all the metal bands want these days? What about higher than 120 shutter speeds? My main problem is that I can't go much higher than that because you can see the ground-glass vibrating too much.

Hey right on man, stuff looked good. Some really sharp shots, and digging the depth of the handheld stuff. Haha noone likes this music but hundreds of thousands and possibly millions visit warped tour every year which the majority of the bands scream in one way or another!
Props on the video man, I just got the Letus Extreme as well.

Have you had any problems with grain shooting above f4?

THANKS MAN!
I have had some problems with grain in different situations.
I like shallow DOF so I usually shoot with my lenses as wide as possible, and then I adjust the camera to match. That might not be the best way to go about it, but I find it works for me and it's quick and easy. If I want lots of depth I'll just take the letus off and shoot with the stock lens.

So if I'm outside I'll keep my lens (attached to the letus) all the way open, then I'll put on ND filters etc and that usually works fine. But if I stop down the lenses attached to the letus I do get some grain. I find the best thing to do is put in brand new batteries every time that way the grain is spinning as fast as possible and you have less problems with it.

usually the higher the shutter speed(angle) the more jittery or "stroby" it will look. for your first establishing shot, it probably wasn't a good idea to shoot at a faster shutter. depending on the look you want, you can change around your shutter speeds to give the viewer a frenetic feeling or slower pace to your shot. for example, saving private ryan and band of brothers have the high shutter angle which results in a lot of strobing and fast-paced feeling. i personally like the 1/24th setting because it doesn't give any strobing effect, but in turn blurs motion a bit. hope this helps :)

Oh I misunderstood you guys I think. I was going for the saving private ryan look on purpose cause I wanted it to look shaky, Later at the end during the color saturation swells and stuff I turned it back to regular. I've seen a lot of metal videos where they actually move the frame around in post to make it shaky and I thought having a higher jittery shutterspeed would better/different than that. Did it work or does it call too much attention to itself?

yeah I'm completely over the young kids in christianxcore bands, but nice work on your part.

I'd say my only criticism is that you kind of paced their "head banging" wrong for the first half of their song, you were a half beat ahead or behind the song with the visuals. But overall it looked very good, congrats!
