PROS and CONS of shooting in SQUEEZE mode in P2???

Hi everyone,

I've been messing around shooting in the squeeze mode in the HVX200 and I noticed a couple of things, for starters, the letterbox aspect ratio in the HVX is not true at all it's just putting black bars on top of the image to make it look like 16x9. You can notice this in post when you apply blur the black borders will blur out as well. I've started trying the squeeze aspect ratio and noticed that it is truly 16X9 plus it gives you a wider lens.

Now, my question is does this affect any of the resolution of the camera? PROS AND CONS shooting in this feature? ----SQUEEZE----

Share your experiences here I would gladly appreciate it. I will be shooting a shortfilm soon and any helpful hints and any problems you had encountered please let me know. Thanks!

Yeh, we shot one greenscreen gig in "letterbox" and I wasn't very pleased with the results. "Squeeze" is what I'd recommend as well.
I was surprised to see the different black bar sizes though.

Do you guys have any comments on workflow issues between the two sizes?

what about if we want to shoot wider than 16:9 in 720? Is it best to use squeeze and tape the lcd then crop manually in FCP?

If you want 16:9 standard-def footage, you want SQUEEZE. There are only pros, there are no cons.

There's one small potential benefit to letterbox: it gives you an effective increase in zoom length (since a smaller section of the imager is used). There was indeed once (out of hundreds of projects) where I found this useful. Otherwise, SQUEEZE is the way to go!
