RedRock Shoulder Mount or Zacuto's News Man

Yea, I saw that but the non stackable are cheaper So I thought I could have two batteries so I can always re-charge one of the two when I switch them

Or can you recharge them when they are mounted together?! That would be sweet!

BTW Joseph, thank you so much for posting so much.

to recharge two idx v-mount batteries at once you have to have the dual charger unfortunately. I know Switronix sells a dual plate if you're worried about time. However, I think you'll be find with a single battery. Balancing your shoulder rig will just be a little more difficult.

Well there is a 3.3lbs battery and that is 1.3lbs more that two 1lbs batteries... also I will have an 18" so it should be fairly easy... unfortunately a bit of a long rig though

So I'll go that way... get these two 115Wh 3.3lbs with one dual charger... and get the Power Pod and use only one at a time, charge the other, switch (not worried about time)

So this one... but doesn't it look like it is one of the ones that double mount?
It doesn't say it is, but look at it, it seems to have a little sliver of mettain in that groove

YEah... keep in mind that a lot of v-mount batteries are stackable... you can mount two at once by connecting them to each other.

Tim you could always just be a man and use a towel for a shoulder mount!

Funny you mention that. Costco has a great deal on bath towels. I buy like a few hundred in red and market them as "The RED CAMERA TOWEL". I need some beta testers though.... At a hundred dollars a towel I think it'd be a great deal and it would have other uses outside camera gear.

Well I gotta revise my opinion of Zacuto. They are quite befuddled that their arm sags too and are replacing it ASAP. They test with a 6lb monitor and it doesnt budge. Ver 2 is supposedly even stronger than the 1st.

The rods coming loose is a broken loctite joint. Maybe not enough or some bad loctite. Needless to say I've got plenty of loctite I can fix it with. So really that leaves me with me with only one major problem. Addicted to these damn zicromounts and zmounts and zrounds. I could swap the arm in and out of them all day. Its like crack, but more expensive.

I guess you totally missed the posts were I talked about the batteries in the far back... that is what balances the rig and it frees up the monitor for the 1AC and producer, director, or DP to share

No I didn't miss it, I was more focused on the part where you said the LCD and the viewfinder would be in front of your face. The batteries will simply not be enough to counter balance unless you make the rig very long and try to use leverage to balance it out.

Oh that thing - yeah its 11 stinking pounds of useless weight. Sure I bet it balances things well but I'd rather have a dual battery setup hanging off the back. But if you arent running anything with those batteries then I suppose the lunch box aint all that bad of an idea. I'm just so addicted to having an external monitor that I need that battery power following me around. And at that point you might as well toss a zylight on top and run it off the batteries too. And perhaps a jetpack to fly around with :)

11lbs! wow... and I am only going to have 3.3lbs from the IDX I found... uhmmmm... thanks Bob.. I gotta re-thunk stuffs

the batteries from zabuto are only 2.4 lbs... so 4.8lbs buplus the almost neglicent weight of the double plate double battery mount and red plate so say 5lbs...
I will have about 4lbs tops with my setup... so not far off the Zacuto Studio setup... I wonder... I guess 11lbs is the sweet spot... but Zacuto thinkgs 5lbs with 14" rails is enough... I will have 4lbs on either a 12' from the baseplate or the 18' from the RR shoulder rig... I have more length with the RR so I might be ok... long as crap though... it would make life a little hard... and small spaces a bioch... and that's all I will have on this new short... apartments mostly

Really quick update - Zacuto has shipped a new arm to me (large, ver2) and it is like night and day from the original ver2 arm I had received. Something aint right in the first one. Amazingly silky smooth movement through the knob and moderate tightening and the thing locks up completely. The old one had much "stickier" knob movement more akin to tightening a water spigot outside and it just doesnt lock up as tightly. Also appears to be a silver/white washer looking thing missing from the old one. I imagine this and perhaps other things have to do with it. Anyways, the old one is headed back to Chicago and I'm happy as a clam. Zacuto even sent me a large arm to replace my medium arm as they had no medium arms in stock. Darn. Large works for me :) Pictures to come this weekend. Currently knee deep in 3d land... Yuck.
