Live Sports Production with HPX

If their stuff is quality then camplex will be hurting from this.

Camplex had a great idea, but it costs way too much. By the time you buy all the needed stuff you could have went and bought a Hitachi multicore or triax system.

Word. I like efficient, nice, INEXPENSIVE systems. I like to find cost effective solutions for problems because I am not rich. The more money I can save means the more money I make so long as it is efficient.

So wait wait it's 12 for the HD/SDI coax adapter!!?!! not bad at all.

But wait we still need to control the camera. All I need is a box with Iris, ped, and red and blue white balance dials. Maybe one day camera manufactures will allow cameras to be controled by computer useing firewire or USB. (did You hear that Jan from panasonic!!!)

There is some serious need for some low budget event cameras.

May be the best way is just run HD/SDI and Tally/intercom to the camera. run them off batts and download scene files into P2 cards. and hope the auto Iris can get it right.

With all the money saved you could add one ore two more cameras to the system.

A lot of the football productions I have been TD on around here simply run an extension cord to the camera, mic cable to the two top cameras for intercom(wireless for the endzone cameras), and a cable for video and sync. It works, but it is a PITA to set-up and tear down. And I get tired of telling the camera ops to adjust their iris.

I had a proc-amp on my end so I could compensate a little for their mistakes, but I couldn't completely fix them.

My ideal set up right now would be 5 HPX-500's, telemetrics HD Fiber systems, Clearcom intercom system, tapeless capture, tapeless HD replay machines, and either a GVG switcher or one of the new Echolab switchers.

The new stinger transition on their switchers would be NICE. I love to use the stinger transitions, but if you are running on a short handed crew it is hard to direct, TD, replay, and run effects out of the ME like that.

It's only $10k for the HD, the triax is $12k

I'm wondering if other manufacturers controllers will work....

There is a need for the people that do it, but the problem is that if you make it to cheap, everyone, their mom and their dog will get live event systems and put those of us who do it out of business. It's kinda like the DJ's around. People now can go spend a grand a Banjo Center and get what they need to do it. Most customers don't understand the difference in quality with cameras and systems, they are just looking at their bottom line cost wise. If you go do an event for $5k and some guy comes in and will do "the same thing" for under a grand, your client is going to take a serious look at that.

You can, it's just sucks having to run multiple cables everywhere. For sports, many times you need the audio too, and don't forget genlock, + the extra money spent on batteries.

With all the money saved you could add one ore two more cameras to the system.

Possibly, or with the money you save, you might be spending that on labor for all the extra stuff you have to do. Ideally, you spend a few extra $$$ on equipment so that it eliminates the need for so many people to run things. Equipment as an investment will be a fixed cost, whereas labor is ongoing. If you can save the labor costs, you'll be much better off in the long run.

I know a company that makes custom cables. Tell them what you need and they will wrap the cables into one thin rubber tube. Would end up being thinner than multicore. I don't need aduio. Will be doing mostly concerts. In this day and age do you we still need genlock. I mean whats the down side of not using it. Obviously with a switcher that has built in TBC's.

I don't mean real low budget, but maybe something like a 7K HDV camera and a 2k CCU. Be great for internet studio as well.

I don't think it would destroy the market. It would also be very help for churches. Most of which are running the SD out of Z1's into an Sd switcher.

You would want genlock. Most good switchers don't have TBC's built in. A genlock box doesn't run that much anymore. If genlock wasn't important anymore then all the new equipment wouldnt have the jack for it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldnt a TBC add more frame delay since it delays the signal to sync it up?

The HPX500 would be perfect for sports...
We were the suppliers of all the HD solutions utilized in the Dolphin Stadium from the control room out to the field. As far as we know the Dolphins were the first to go HD with 150ft HD boards.
I see some posts here which can be tricky because we either tired it or.... .

I would love to share my suggestions on a personal basis with anyone in the pro sports industry, I will hook you up with all the Panasonic Sports broadcast crew..

DSR300 parts.

DSR300 parts.

Oh by theway can you get parts far a sony DSR 300. I have one lying around I would like to get it up and running.

We started out 11 years ago in the parts business. Although we still sell and support parts, our primary business is broadcast gear, primarily my favorite line Panasonic.
We are sitting on about 175k of Sony Broadcast parts, mostly mechanical parts but no circuit boards. Maybe I have what you need just shoot me the part numbers or a discription. I may need to research the part number but its worth a try.
That far right hand row in the photo are inventory bins full of parts to support our clients when they are in a jam.

Well I need a DXF 701 curcuit board.

But what I am really looking for is the front optical filter unit. It's the blue glass behind the lens and in front of the ND filters. Sorry no numbers and no Idea what it's called.

DXF701 has several boards.
The DSR300 there is also a DSR300A which has slightly different parts.

So we dont clog up the DVXuser posts, private message me with an email and I will send you back PDF exploded views so you can pick what you need..
Just trying to help.
