I've been discussing this with a few colleagues of mine and we'd really like to see a section dedicated to wedding videography/production etc.

With that said, what are your thoughts?

Yes

or

No

This topic comes up from time to time. The usual conclusion is that we already have enough sections to this site.

IMO we needs less forums. Many forums hardly get any views, which is why it's difficult to get answers when you have questions about cinematography or something along those lines.

Just adding would make things worse.

I think we should have it. I've said so before; the #1 way people make a living off video is shooting weddings, and wedding shooters are hard-working professionals (they'd have to be, to survive in that field!)

It would have to be a separate subforum though, because filmmakers and wedding shooters don't seem to mesh all that well.

I voted yes, but I would suggest that it would be a "Weddings/Events" section; to use Mr. Campbell's terminology, for any sort of shooting where you can't say "cut." :) While I imagine most of the traffic there would be for weddings, there's got to be more people than just me on the board doing I-MAG and/or recording for big corporate events and the like.

man i hate weddings. But i shoot em. I shoot corporate video too. It would be a great place to discuss tips and advice on how to survive the dreadful money-making service business.

Yes,
And the Captains onto something there, Weddings & Events as people seem to be agreeing with already. Going to be filming a couple of weddings later this year & I know nothing about filming weddings anyway.

Any way to change the poll from anonymous so we can see the names? I think it would be good if people were accountable for their vote. A lot of us wedding/event shooters have been asking for this section for a long time.

I guess I want to know from those voting no - why do you care? Sounds flip but I'm curious why it has an impact on those not interested in the subject and would therefore never visit such a subforum anyway. Heck, you can even turn it off so you don't have to see it from the main page.

The only reason I can think to vote no ( I voted yes btw) is that many (not all though!) wedding related discussions like which mic or which camera already have proper forums. The problem to me though is that weddings and events have their own set of rules that differ from normal traditional production. So I'm in the give weddings and events their own forums camp myself.

Last time I saw this poll I voted yes. This time I'm voting no.

Just say no to weddings. Oh, but the money....the sweet, sweet money. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Man, it took me a long time to find this thread. Doesn't seem to be much interest based on the poll numbers either way.

Vote it up over the next week, and if there are enough people to say yes, that lead me to believe that we'll have a decent (but small is fine) little wedding section, then I"ll do it...

Later,
Jason

Voted YES. Don't have a problem with it. If it's a section someone does not like, they just don't have to go there. Sort of like changing the channel on your TV. Besides theres always a chance I will find something informative to me there.

just curious, how much longer are you keeping the poll open jason? looks like the yays have it at this point.

It shows it at the top of the poll:
This poll will close on 05-25-2008 at 06:25 AM"

Also, I think Jason's point was that it's not just a matter of the 'yays' having it - but showing that there is enough interest overall.
35 users (which is how many have voted yay so far) out of over 36,000 doesn't really show a whole lot of interest.
