"Corrado" - A production blog

Still no word from SAG on whether we are cleared or not. I think we are, but it is interesting to note that they have all been in meetings with the AMPTP in a bid to prevent the actor's strike. My rep is supposed to be available tomorrow to discuss.

To me, it doesn't look good for strike aversion. We'll see.

I actually thought of you this morning as I was reading an article on that very subject. I thought you might be interested in it, as it seems SAG is very open to making pre-strike agreements with indie's (non studio films) to allow production to continue in the event of a strike. Something you might want to check in to (assuming you haven't already).

Here's the article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24261849/

Good luck! Looking forward to seeing the finished film

Adam, I feel kinda silly saying this and I really hate to sound cliché or use a very special term lightly... but you are a new hero of mine.

Thanks Ted, and others. It really means a lot to me! I mean it Ted!!!!

Dave my DP flew in today. What a load off my shoulders to have him be here to help.

We have two set photogs working because everyone and their dog knows of one, so the flick should be very well documented.

Also - get this - CNN is coming down to do a piece on me and the movie and my gun guy - something about guns in movies. I spoke to the guy today - cool dude and will be with us for a couple days.

Stoked does not begin to describe it. Dunno how he found me.

Hype, Vapor, and Movie #2

I told my agent today that we need to strike while the iron's hot. This industry feeds on hype. Hyping something that doesn't exist is accepted and even encouraged here.

Which is why I trotted out Movie #2. Movie #2 is an action flick in the vein of die hard (what can I say, I'm a one trick pony - action seems to be my game). I had half written the story a year ago. In fact, I was going to do it before Corrado, but the budget was too big.

Now that I am getting some attention by industry folks, I though the time was right to mention this movie to them. I want to always have something in development.

Shouldn't I be worrying about Corrado today????

I have been, for the last 14 hours. But I believe a good writer producer always has a "next project" ready to deploy. Tom Sizemore was hired to do Private Ryan while Spielberg was still filming Amistad. Spielberg hired him himself.

Multitasking is the name of the game here. I will admit to being a shameless self promoter to my circle of hollywood people. It's the only way to survive.

I heard a quote once posted on one of these forums. Maybe even this one, I don't remember.

It went something like "Self promotion is everything. Those who learn it, rise above. Those who fail to grasp it quickly fade into obscurity" I probably butchered it.

So I figured while I was the new hot deal for the next 10 minutes, I'll pimp movie #2.

My agent read the first 20 pages. His response?

"I like it better than Corrado"

Great. So I went to Johnny, and got him on board, for I don't know what role, and neither does he, or how much. He just knows he wants to be in it.

I'll ask Tom over the weekend - but I know he'll want in, and those will probably be the two carry overs from Corrado. Based on the script, those two, and the proposed budget (a few million - maybe 2-4M) I will then go get at least one A lister and an ensemble cast better than Corrado's and get that flick into prepro. I love low star meters for the major cast and pulled it off pretty well on Corrado - it will be even better on #2.

Will I be in prepro while still in post on Corrado? Who knows. I do know I'd like to film #2 starting December or January. We'll see.

When you are presented with your 15 minutes of fame, milk it, stretch it, flog it and make it last the rest of your life.

My quote of the day: If I do nothing, nothing happens. It's almost a mantra for me.

Repeat it people. Look in the mirror and repeat it.

Luis Sinibaldi -- The Hot Commodity. :B Remember who said it first.

On about the Zeiss PL glass: Trust in the sharpness. Those or some Cooke S4's make life happy.

You're down to the wire, mang. Now it's time for the hard part! Things to remember:

Don't eat that cheese dish, breathe, and have fun.

Looking forward to the SECOND ACT of this thread.

Hadn't checked the "User Films" section in a while. and just stumbled upon this thread. Read it all in one sitting, like a great novel. I just couldn't put it down.

I know it's been said before, but it gets my vote as:

"BEST THREAD EVER"!!!

Seriously. There is more useful info on the production side of filmmaking in these posts than in all my filmmaking books and DVD courses combined (and I have too many!). It's real world, street savvy, clever, ballsy and CURRENT advice. It's one of the most charitable, and gracious sharing of "inside" info that I have read in a very long time. Easily worth it's pixel count in gold ounces for anyone who is remotely considering launching a low-budget feature (aren't we all?).

Also like many, I have been inspired into action by your adventure. I have the identical camera package as you, a similar background in film (2-3 years of small stuff with no major credits), a couple of scripts, some money from a previous career, and a burning desire to get a feature off the ground. You have reminded me that the only thing stopping me is myself. No more BS excuses or trying to depend on others to do the key work, and getting disappointed when they don't pull through. If I'm not willing to become the all-encompassing nuclear engine behind my project, no one else will. I know what I need to do now.

Congrats, Adam! And PLEASE keep up this thread through shooting, post production, the premiere, negotiating with distributors and anything else you care to share!

Hey Adam, GREAT NEWS about the "next script!" You fooled me.... I thought you didn't have a clue for a follow-up. Awesome to hear that is NOT the case! And I am delighted to hear that your agent is loving it and that Tom and Johnny are on board as well.

And that CNN bit... too cool!

.......

I know that you going to make the script available to us one day (and I cannot wait for that!!!) but here is a second request..... I would love to have a copy of your shoot schedule down the road as well. In addition to just being a cool thing to check out, I would love to compare it to the script and analyze it.

.....

Lenses and locations... locked down???

Go Adam, Go!

Adam! Wow! Keep it going man!! Great news on the next script! Nothing wrong with being a one trick pony when its a good trick :) This is continuing to be a great educational read, not sure when you are sleeping, but keep on keeping on.

Everytime i come on this thread i'm reinspiried to keep on with my own film despite being a budget of like $200. First film... this is the start. One day i hope to also have a 300K budget for a feature (I am going to turn this short film script into a feature and one day actually shoot it after a few more shorts)

Ted - I had written 60 pages of this script and forgotten about it. I think sometimes God does for you what you can't do for yourself. When I was asked plainly a month and a half ago if I had any other scripts, I said no, 'cause I had forgotten about that one, it not being finished. The time wasn't right then either. Now is a much better time.

Jeff - when I sleep I dream about the project!!!! I can't wait until post. I'm not sure how much adrenaline I can take.

Boxer - thanks man!

Adam,

What day does principal start? I would re-read the whole thread, but.. well, you know. Time.

e

Adam good luck with the project man! Wish I could be there to help! Keep me in mind for the next project though, I'll definitely clear my schedule to come out to LA.

Will do Charlie. Let me take this opp. to mention that your help with workflow has been invaluable!

Erik et al. : April 26th - Saturday.

I've just been informed we've been cleared to start by SAG!!!!! Yay!

Having tv coverage is awesome, that's a sign of the hard work you are doing.
I'm also waiting for the second part..... but first (still some days left) let's see some BTS photos.
