I had the unfortunate experience of having my Macbook stolen during a shoot the other day :-(

As a freelancer, what can I do to cover myself if my equipment is stolen or damaged during a shoot? Insurance?
 
Having production insurance is key, and often you can protect your company's assets with it. Just make sure your policy covers theft and includes all your assets.

You may be covered in your household insurance scheme! Check it out but the best move for any shooter is to have specific insurance on equipment.
 
Make sure when you get production or equipment insurance that you have a "floater" policy...so it has full coverage on location, etc.
 
Why haven't you got insurance for you gear?

You should have third party liability insurance, so you would think at the same time you would have got equipment insurance.

I read on here time after time about stolen equipment, yet the penny still hasn't dropped for many until after the horse has bolted.

Get insurance for your gear. Its highly desirable for theives. You can't have your eyes on the job and your gear at the same time.
