Are current adapters ready for Reds Scarlet 3K camera resolution?

Yea but the grain structure of red @ 320 ASA is like my 5D at ISO 100. SCrew it crank it up to 640, and its still clean......

Though nothing is as pristine as a 5D @ ISO 50. ITs just sick....

Seriously, though. Add to the fact that you can do it in REDCine instead of in-camera and it's even better. Gotta love a clean image.

I say screw RED Scarlet until it has a launch date. Talk about trying to goose you with pre-mature hype and trying to dull the sales of real cameras that aren't vaporware based on false hopes. Sure the Scarlet will exist, but when is the X factor. Based on Red's track record, early 2009 is optimistic, my guess at best mid 2009 to early 2010. I think all press announcent at NAB is such a load since there's no working model, or #D mockup. Granted, they delivered RED (perhaps technically too early - can you say work flow issues?) but it took a while. Longer than the Red Rock mattebox.

I'm sick up to hear with these "design" announcements. Even panasonic gives a launch timetable, one that you can plan your pruchases around. Red shows complete contempt for the consummer. At least Panasonic gives your timetables by which you can plan our purchases. Red's policy, ironically, is so indie unfreinly.

I really have to disagree with this. I mean, the founder of the company posts pretty much everyday on the Red forums and grants people an inside view of what's going on at the company unlike anything else I've ever seen. I find it hard to call Red contemptuous of consumers when they're buying back Red Ones at the full original price so that its users - the people who believed in them from the very start - can upgrade to the Epic without feeling like they were shafted (the whole 'making obsolescence obsolete' thing). Red's been really responsive to user feedback... if something becomes a point of contention on the forums, it's generally responded to in a much faster manner than I've ever seen with the major camera manufacturers. I know Panasonic's been better than most in this regard, but have you ever seen a dialog taking place online between people from Canon or Sony and the average joe? You basically show up at NAB each year and take (or leave) whatever has been handed down from above. With Red, it's a constant back and forth process that I think is very pro-consumer.

Dude did you just compare delivery of a 4k camera to a mattebox?! A 17,500 4k camera to a mattebox. A camera built from scratch to a mattebox. No offense to Redrock but c'mon. I mean seriously i've read some ridiculous shizzle but thats like apples to pomegranates man. I might have to give you the Walter Graff award for that one.

I was very excited to see Scarlet's specs, and we'll definitely have our hands on a pre-production unit for testing. The Brevis35 MP.1 will have no issues with 3K resolution based on testing with much higher resolution digital SLR. Fixed lense or otherwise, by the time it's released, our zoomable 2/3" relay will be old news so we're quite prepared for any configuration.

This was my first time to NAB and geez, my feet hurt.

I looked for you at B&H, Dennis. Think I just missed you. I was over in the Sony booth.

RED is hardly conventional. The way I see it, their "announcements" are nothing more than saying, "hey, this is something we're working on. Thought you'd like to know." I'm not a RED fanboy, but I'm okay that RED products are driving competition from the big boys.

Treat the RED Scarlett like a concept car that will eventually come to life one way or the other.

raw will help but it is ONE 2/3" cmos sensor,

Are you sure it is just one?

I didn't recognize who was answering questions at the RED booth when I was there, but someone asked if it was "one" sensor and all he could say was "the chip size will be 2/3" in a way not obviously not answering the single or three chip question.

Taylor, I was right beside the Sony booth with B&H :-) We were pretty low profile, however we've already started plans for our own booth next year. Without question, my favourite aspect of NAB was just meeting a pile of our current customers who took the time to stop by and say hi. No one was quite as memorable as Leonard Levy who bypassed a handshake and delivered an astounding bear hug :-)

I look at the Scarlett in the same fashion as I did the HV20 which got me fired up just like the RED cam is now. The HV20 turned out to be an amazing addition to the budget filmmaker's toolkit. It's all good.

Jan Crittenden Livingston, she is here every day, she is a panasonic product manager for the DVX/HVX/HPX170.

I dont think RED is at fault for its rabid fans going off on tangents about how amazing a camera that doesnt exist is. Its entirely their perogative if someone wants to plan a scarlet shoot, on something that doesnt exist. I think Red is rushing their cameras out. They need to figure out the work flow first. Thats not just a hurdle for working wiht it, its a quicksand pit right after the hurdle too, for good measure.

I'm not countin' on a Scarlet at all. HPX170 is where it's at. However, the RED ONE workflow is really not that hard at all (so long as you're working on Apple Hardware of course).

With programs like Crimson and Apple updates coming to treat RAW footage in the Log and Transfer window, it's getting easier and easier. Bring along the fact that you can work with proxy files and store color information directly in those without having to actually grade and you do have a camera that can work for all types of situations.

The workflow isn't great or easy or even conventional by any means, but if you don't need 4K then it can be treated similar to HDV, in that you can compress the Proxy files to anything you want to work in and still get the incredible RED ONE image.

I'm making a pocket sized 6k camera that'll be out in the Spring of 09. It'll be called the Muave. It'll have a CMOS imager with a spinning ground glass and PL mount lenses all on a unit the size of cigarette pack. Did I mention its thermal voltaic power pack recharges from the heat generated by storing it in your pockets. Charge time: 1 hour for back pockets. 20 minutes for front pockets.

Accepting pre-orders for 10 percent of the purchase (5 grand).

Bad comparison. Let's go with cameras. Sony announces an EX 1 three months later you can buy it. Panny anounces a 170 and it'll be available when they say it will be. Dennis Wood say a flip is on the way and boom it is. Because of this reliable and responsible announcement, people can plan their purchases, shoots, etc. Red announces, and Lord knows when they'll deliver. How about those Red Drives? Your Primes arrive yet? Sure they're dealing with cutting edge tech but so do computer companies. The premature announcements serve two purposes: to build hype and forestall other puchases. How about an announcement that the workflow will blow for quite some time.

How about I don't have a red or the lens on order, how about i've been w/Brevis from jump and the flip was not boom (how would you know you crapped all over the Brevis for months and sold yours right?) How about the fact that Sony has been in existence since the dawn of the Samurai, so yeah they should be able to have a camera out in a week, f' three months. Sorry bra' some days your sour apple flip-flop is annoying. Depending on your workflow the HVX wasn't the most painless thing to work with initially (3rd party plugs), but those with the monetary resources got it done. Plenty of people using Red right now. Why do you care if they announce it ahead of time?

I ripped on the Brevis and alot of other things I owned and sold. Good thing I did, because none of the precious fanboys and delicate types were giving honest assessments (or warnings if you may). And guess what, they fixed most of their problems. So what's your point? Point I was making had nothing to do whether I like Brevis , Sony or Panny - it had to do with hype of RED's announcements and all the fantasy fanboys creaming their jeans about what they're gonna get for Christmas ... when Christmas comes. Now that's annoying - "Bra". Comparing p2 to red workflow...please, that's like matteboxes to cameras. And as if Red, I mean Oakley, is a little DIY company that's naive about lead times. Their hype announcements are calculated as they come.
