Importing footage from P2 to a Laptop!

Hi there,

I have just bought a HVX200E and Im loving it! I had been checking this forum for quite a long time now but even now after reading so much, im slightly confused about dumping footage from P2 to a laptop via the PCMCIA slot. I have installed the software that came with the camera kit, but i am still unable to transfer any footage from the P2 to my laptop. (Toshiba Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.6 Ghz, 2gig RAM).

Could anyone be please kind enough to put in some step-by-step information regarding this matter. It wud be great if somebody did, cos this is making me mad.

Thanx,

How are you trying to tranfser it?

The best way to do it is through P2 Viewer or P2CMS.

But in Windows, you can also just take the entire Contents folder and LastClip.txt and drag them to a folder on your hard drive. If you have the drivers installed, the P2 card behaves like any other flash memory.

I've written a small utility in Windows that automates just that. From a P2 drive, it copies all the files to a destination directory (with a new numbered unique name each time) and after the copy it verifies the checksum of the source and the destination files. It is pretty helpful to ingest cards on the laptop HD without having to mess with the trackpad. Just insert the card, press Enter and you can go back to the shooting.
If someone is interested, I'll put it somewhere online.

Best regards,
Laurent

I guess, but I've never tried.

I have the Duel adaptor on my Mac but this program I wrote is for Windows. I run it when I use my Windows laptop (which is more often than the bulky Duel). Makes me think... the same program could be quite useful on the Mac as well... Anyway I unfortunately cannot try with the Windows laptop as it doesn't have an Express card but I'll definitely package it and make it available ASAP.

That sounds like a great little program, and just the thing I'd be looking for. Please let us know when you post it.
