BIG news from Letus!

I can definitly appreciate the image quality on a RED one. I would rather Shoot RED believe me..... But noone wants to pay for it.

I want to shoot RED, Timur... I want to...

*sad song*

You do some killer work with what you already have, I'd hate to see you destroy stuff with a RED. =(

Ok guys I don’t won’t to start a fight RED vs. Others… we are on the same side of the fence, am renting a Varicam and an HVX200…

But am still skeptic, the Ultimate looks sexy… from “looks” to really perform there is a distance… also there is a distance from now to being available … you see Moore law etc. For me that I own a camera costing 40K$ the Ultimate it sound as the holy grail of DoF adapters! The only problem is that Varicam has an image inverse mode so it doesn’t need the snorkel style adapter… or the extra glass (prism) either…

So a Ultimate with no prism, would be perfect for us the big guys, with F900R and HPX2700, 3000, 3700 and varicams…

But noone wants to pay for it.

Do you start seeing that effect? Why you thing is happening? The lack of tape recorder probably? Difficult workflow?

i agree, there should bea flip AND non flip mode incase cameras start releasing built in flip function.

Exactly. I'd love to be shooting on the RED. But so far I've only shot one project with it. All the other projects want a cheaper rig, with a tried and true workflow that will not increase the over all budget.

If I were shooting more features, this might be a different story. But for the local commercials, music videos, and industrials it is just out of their league ...

Nothin' wrong with skepticism. Right now we're all takin' Disjecta and Ryan's word for it. We do know that Disjecta is a Bokeh freak (meant well) and that he also can't afford to lose much light. He's a stickler for final image, check his HVX200 history out and why he switched to the A1. Although I can't wait to see some footage for myself, knowing the Letus team's bein' a stickler for quality now to compete in this small niche I am counting on it bein' everything everyone's been requesting out of these things, including a lower price point than the P+S Competitor.

As far as it being far off, it's not so far off. Maybe a month n'a half for mass distribution? Maybe less?

You are right about the Varicam and such not needing the flip, but consider the HPX500 and other cameras without the reverse image scanning ability. I think that they've covered every base at the price point (still pending price point even) whic is going to be the more efficient way to build. Also, the Ultimate is not just for lareg format cameras, it still works with the DVX, HVX, A1, EX-1, etc, etc. So, the flip is imperative, or at lest I see it that way.

Timur's right. You need a crew to operate a RED ONE. Not only that, the cost of the rental itself (full packages) is still between 800 - 1200 dependin' on who, what, and when you want to rent. So, you're looking at around 1800.00 a day to shoot RED ONE and that's an optimistic figure. Favors, cheap labor (cheap ain't always good), etc.

An HPX170 + Ultimate can still be a one or two man operation for excellent results.

:B You know HPX170 + 35mm Adapter is gonna be one light setup. Good for smaller Steadicam rigs, Cranes/Jibs, Small Dollies, etc etc.

Yum

Both of us would love to post some sample footage, but all we have is the test footage that we shot last thursday before Hien and Quyen took off for NAB. While we are very impressed with the footage we got, it was just test stuff- charts, tree branches far away, highlights off of cars, etc. Nothing that visually exciting. Hien and Quyen want the first footage released to be stellar, and not just the test footage that Disjecta and I got.

When they get back from NAB, and have finished up the adapter, I'll be posting some footage for all to evaluate. (And it will be visually stimulating. :) )

I can definitely understand that! It'll be worth the wait. Somethin' more than tree branches and rack focusing.

I can tell you that plenty of footage was taken by Phillip Bloom and the Le brothers themselves at NAB. It will be posted in due time. The adapter (which uses around 6 times the parts of the Extreme) is priced very economically. Keep in mind that the product is compact so removing the flip might not be as easy as we all think!

The Ultimate has a beautiful image, a beautiful price tag, and mostlikely a very specific user base. But hey, who says us low-end guys wouldn't rent it out for a shoot if need be.

Personally, I'm sticking with Redrock a little bit longer!

I'm really looking forward to some P&S and Ultimate comparison shots. Honestly i don't expect them to be identical (cuz it's half the price) but i hope it's at least close. When was the expected release/pre-orders?

I do not think that ti will be close at all- the Ultimate will blow the P&S out of the water...

As soon as there is a production model I plan on doing a comparison between the two to so that all can see the differences. Should be a fun test to complete. :)

I've seen footage from both. I like the Ultimate. However, I happen to know of a new unnamed adapter that i think is comparable and cheaper than the ultimate.

Would you mind naming this adapter? Or pointing us to someone who could?

Comparable you say? Without naming the adapter, how would you say it compares as a cheaper alternative to the Ultimate or would be comparable?

Are we talking about another spinning ground glass or new architecture that provides for better performance?
