RED NAB NEWS THREAD: Scarlet pics are up

$3,000 for the Scarlet? Is that before or after they charge you $2,950 for a viewfinder and $1,500 for the batteries + charger?

The camera will include a 4.8" LCD.
Charger and battery I'm not sure about - but with the volume they'll have to sell of this camera I can only assume $3K is going to be a 'ready to shoot' out of the box price.

Except, of course, the cost of RED CF cards.
I can only imagine they won't be included, given the added cost.

Well, the discussion has been about $5k for it set up like in the photo on their site. This is still a very reasonable price considering it will have a 2/3" chip and shoot 3k. For me though the caveat isn't the price, it's the waiting until it's out, and lack of certainty that it will ship when ordered at that time, and not be in alpha (or beta) state when shipping.

I've been critical of Red, mostly just those frothing at the mouth over products are vapor. I like Red stirring the pot, but I'm hoping they can deliver as promised with Scarlet. I just think it's going to likely be a year from now, possibly longer, until you can order a Scarlet, and have it on your doorstep in a week, and in full working order. We'll see. We'll also see what the other companies do between now and then.

They'll have to include at least one, if only as a bonus and a small one. I mean, you can't shoot without having one. That would be absurd and probably piss a lot of people off to get their camera via FedEx, and find out it has to be hooked up to a computer via HDMI in order to shoot because it didn't come with any memory.

Again, we'll probably know more a year from now. In the meantime, I used an HVX yesterday on a shoot. What nice pictures that camera takes. Just gorgeous. And you order one today, B&H will have it on your doorstep in a few days. :Drogar-SunGlass(DBG

none of my HV20s came with any tapes. :embarasse

You mean like masking tape? I thought those cameras were well built and held together on their own? :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Seriously, it probably depends on the cost and availability of CF cards at the time, and if Scarlet uses those that are proprietary to Red. If so, this isn't the same as going to the supermarket and buying DV tapes. I still think they'll have to start out by including one, if only as a "buy before Dec 31st and get a free 16gb CF card" deal.

Guess we'll find out in a year or so.

Got some flickr pics up of my time at the RED booth. I was in the first theatre showing at 9am on Monday. I was in the booth during the first hour of the show!

it's not really handsized. no where near THAT small. It's more like two hand sized... it's cool that it does 3k in such a compact design though.

To my knowledge, no. It will be for body only. Probably without an LCD screen (mock-up doesn't have a viewfinder), probably with 1 battery, and probably with 1 CF card as a bonus for ordering early.

As noted before, if you want the LCD, Mattebox, batteries, 3 CF cards and ubercool Cage, expect to pay $5,000. Not bad actually, depending on when it's actually released, and what the competition delivers at that time.
