BIG news from Letus!

Well - got a chance to see the Ultimate in person at Zacuto's booth. WOW - Kendal Miller / Matt Jeppson from FreshDV were there shooting an interview with Hien (who's hilarious, BTW) - Anyway - Bokeh, Bokeh, Bokeh. This is the adapter to beat. With their new spinning GG, it is as filmic as you could get. And now add Scarlet - you could have a kickin' combo for very little $$$.

Watch for the Hien / Letus piece on FreshDV.

Shame we have to wait quite a long time to see the Scarlet. Who knows just how long!

I'm noticing nobody's sayin' anything about the Bokeh bein' pretty much dead on for the Ultimate. That's one major complaint with the extreme and it already matches the P+S Tec Bokeh.

Are we just waitin' for footages to confirm that the Bokeh is beyond acceptable?

Excellent, Phillip. It's been a long time coming and I can't wait to see some footages from all of the cameras. That means the A1, HVX, AND the EX-1/3 models.

How did you like the Letus Relay? Did you get a chance to see it/mess with it?

I`m 99% sure that the nice bokeh will affect light loss and you lose about half to full stop by doing so. There simply is no free meals. But then again I could be 1% wrong. And then we are at the beginning again, different Cinefuses for Brevis, SGblade for SGpro...
... only the Ultimate will cost 3k for being able to set or and mess up the backfocus on the fly. The fine tuning and oscillation memory really is only a digital (trickle) potentiometer with a low batt light - what the hack is going on.

Cheers,
T

I dunnoooo... This projects been in development for quite a while... I think they might have gotten a stop of light loss rating that they gave and Disjecta's sticklerism for better Bokeh. Course, I know a few people that will be anxious to disprove the half a stop theory.

Ultimate + HPX170 is gonna be a very nice combo.

Any word on if we can order the B4 lens relay yet?

The B4 relay and the Ultimate are still in development, as they are both prototypes. I'm sure the team over at Letus wants to get them to market sooner rather then later. But there hasn't been any official word that I have heard yet.

Course, I know a few people that will be anxious to disprove the half a stop theory.

Using the methodology that was suggested by FreshDV.com, when I tested out the Ultimate it did loose 1/2 stop of light by itself. When I added the lens (Zeiss T1.4) it was a total of 1 stop loss. However, with that being said, I know there are some who do not favor this methodology for measuring light loss.

When I get some more time with the adapter I will be able to do some more conclusive testing using waveform monitors, and the like.

not sure if this has been posted here but, I was surfing the web and found that panasonic was a partner webcast with letus. they talk about the letus ultimate at www.panasonic.com/nab/ looks like they even show ultimate footage. Just thought I would pass it along.

Thanks for sharing! It sure is fun to see Hien talking about the Letus Extreme & Ultimate.

BTW- the footage they use in there was shot by me. :)

Ryan, was that your footage with the incredible sky detail? No way. Was that ultimate?

Yep, that is all footage that I provided to Hien for the video. :)

Unfortunately it is not footage from the Ultimate- It is from the Extreme. Hien was working feverishly to get the Ultimate done and bring it over for Steven and I to test out. As it was, it was pretty late in the day, so Steven and I did not have a whole lot of time with the Ultimate. But both Steven and I were very impressed with what the Ultimate was delivering.
