Race Patrol (Green Bench Productions)

Soccer sequence was funny but bad audio throughout. It was hard to hear what they say. did you shoot this with DVX?

Okay, I get to respond first. hmmmmmm, the most racist, narrow minded and culturally blind short I have seen on here.
It was also the best!
Politicly correct I aint never been and this is the kinda stuff that keeps life good.

Sometimes quality wins over quality. The sound sucked but the whole skit made up for it. You should have taken a sock from the barefoot African and slipped it over your mic.

It was shot with a DVX. Normally I use lavalier mics but this was just something I can up with on the spot after some debates in my class about how people should act of certain races. So it came out goo to be almost completely ad lib'd. ;)

Artistically, this was a great idea. If you work it a bit more, it would be up there with FX's "Black/White." It seemed to lean too heavily on stereotypes about Black-Americans though. Need to beef up scenes which depict stereotypes about people of other ethnicities--including actors of other ethnicities. I know this was last-minute but ... just suggestions.

On the technical side, yea the sound could have used some improvement. You probably already know this but, for the action scenes a boom mic would have been in order, or at the very least use a good quality cam-mounted shotgun. During the scenes like the interrogation, a PZM/boundary mic on the table would have been perfect. That one actor (one of the "police") kept screaming right into what I'm assuming was the cam-mic. Also, get (or build) a cam stabiliser system. And hire people who can make each role seem realistic (like someone who can actually dribble a football) and get a real football rather than using a basketball. (That scene was incredibly funny either way though.)

I like the idea my brothas! I really liked it. Again, you probably already know everything I just said and are likely building towards owning the equipment and perfecting the techniques. Keep at it!!

Yep, as I type I'm working on projects to get some income in order to buy some more equipment. The camera took most of my money so I'm just using the camera mic and a lowel tota light. I'm going to buy some mics next, then another light set, and then a green screen and so on and so on. This was just something we felt like doing on the fly. I go to a HBCU (Historically Black College) and there aren't a lot of people of other ethnic groups around except for the college up the street (UNCG) and our school and that school don't really get along...sooooo lol, I had to make due with what I had. Plus my target audience was black students at my school because a lot of them have this way of thinking (where you HAVE to act a certain way because your black).

Anyways, thanks for the comments. Any more feedback is appreciated!

Oh, I forgot to ask ... how did you compress 10+ mins of video down to less than 60 Mb? I have a video about the same size as this one and keep trying different wmv and mov settings and can't get it below ~150 Mb (mov). Yours is small file size AND quite clear video and audio.

I edit with Adobe Premiere Pro so I used the Media Encode program that came with it, and I pretty much just choose one of the presets. I dunno the exact settings so you'll just have to kind of play around with it (that is if your using Adobe Premiere Pro, I dunno about other programs).

dag nabbit...is that harsh talk?....anyways I am really hit by this short and hope you fine tune it. I come from a very 'mixed' family and these topics surround my world.

Whatever preset you used it was sharper than what I have gotten so far from Premiere Pro 2.

Are you getting good feedback from school?

Oh yeah, have you been watching Carlos Mencia on the Comedy Channel?
Really, that guy must be on crack with how far he goes but when you get past the shock of his over the top jokes then he has much wisdom.
again, great topic and give us more.

That's my kind of humor. I like poking fun of things that are wrong with society. It always makes for great inspiring fun.

People at my school love it, along with my other works. They don't know anything about lighting, bad audio and so on, so to them, this is a piece of art work that is clever and funny at the same time, which is what I love about my school.

I even have a little fan club, 174 members strong lol.
