One thing I really like about this thread is that it's no BS. 47 full pages of information!

Every time I check back there's real information to be had.

I hope you cut a teaser trailer asap after principal wraps!!!

thanks Kholi....

I actually hate making trailers. I'm good at editing and have had lots of practice, but trailers to me are like loglines....an art form on their own.

Unrelated, but any idea how much it would cost to have one of the "trailer guys" do a voiceover?

Hblack - I was wondering the same thing.

"In a world where......"

"This summer....."

It'd be awesome. I'm going to look into it.

THAT is awesome.
:)

Keep it up, Adam.

So he phones me today - he got the part! He's so excited. He mentioned that it feels like he's going to the top again. Not sure how much I really had to do with it, but he was thankful nevertheless.

He was seriously on cloud nine today.

He films Wed, thu, Fri, mon and tue. Probably some decent $ too.

That would be Don LaFontaine, the guy who does the voice overs on about 2/3rds of the movie trailers you've seen in the last 10 years...

Apparently he wrote a lot of them too, including the "in a world where..." line, which he now admits he overused.

And he used to be a recording engineer, just like me... : )

The last time I used him, he was $5,000.00 per half hour. The thing is, nobody needs him for day rate, he nails everything in half an hour or less.

I am not sure, that was a few years ago. I think he just works from his own ISDN/VOIP studio now, I don't think many of the top guys go out so much as they used to. They all like working from home much better ;-)

Dan

i 'v worked with all the trailer VO guys. Don is the most widely celebrated but there are a handful of guys who are routinely mistaken for being all one guy. remember Hal Douglas in the COmedian trailer?

and this is actually a piece produced at the trailer company i used to work at for the key art awards...

and one in particular is a personal friend, Tony Rodgers. i can put you in touch with him if you like? his web site is a little out of date, but i still hear him everywhere. he's the official voice of Battlestar Gallactica right now.

Sounds like his Whizzinator days are finally behind him. I've always found it cool to see celebs with embarrassing scandals make comebacks - Hugh Grant, Robert Downey Jr...

It must be a trip to think that you're actually contributing to Sizemore's return to Hollywood's good graces...!

See, this is what you get when you vow to spend a lot less time on message boards - you find this incredibly lengthy and rewarding thread and have to spend 2 STRAIGHT HOURS reading it front-to-back.

This must be the best thread on this entire site, without a doubt. I have to commend you on your honesty and your methods. I've seen a lot of guys who are working on a movie and eager to tell their story, and also eager to tell you how their way is so much better than everyone else's. Hell, I've BEEN one of those guys. But really there's no one right way, no one wrong way. There are many roads to hell! And maybe a lot fewer to heaven, but who can blame any of us for trying?

Phenomenal stuff, man. When you're a big success, you'll have earned it!

I have one big question, though, which goes all the way back to your location hunt, and the silly little rules that follow us around inside "the zone"... did you ever consider doing the whole thing outside the zone, and if not, why not?

Which does raise the question: does the Michigan incentive tempt you at all? 40% cash rebate on any costs you pay in Michigan. Could turn your $350,000 investment into a $130,000-ish check -- instant payback of nearly half the budget. Would that be worth trying to relocate the production to Michigan? Curious how you'd feel about that, Adam.

Agreed. And as far as Downey is concerned, well, all the more. He is for my money one of the most amazingly gifted actors out there right now. Nice to know he's a little *less* "out there" in that other way these days...

Doug - I had already done my previous two large crewed productions here in Orange county. There is no financial incentive to film here other than there are no permit fees for private property, locations are less crowded, and there is no commute for me.

On the other hand, I would have to pay the crew and cast hotels, pay commuting actors mileage, pay cast and crew per diems. Suddenly this becomes an "overnight location" for SAG people with all of the strings that come with it.

I decided early on that these charges would eat the budget needlessly. Hotels for 28+ people for 14 days are not cheap.

Barry - on the other hand you raise an excellent point about Michigan and a few other states like New Mexico. It's too late for me to go there, but next shoot I'm going to look hard at this. It's like free money - amazing.

The biggest downside to me is having to leave my wife and 3 kids for a month filming over there, which I am loathe to do. Mind you the next production will be big enough for me to just take them with me and hire a tutor for the kids, so that's what I might do.

My father was away a lot as a child for work and for some reason when i am away from my family it really gives me separation anxiety. Just a quirk of mine, I suppose.

Adam,

I've been following and enjoying your thread since the beginning; even while traveling :)

In spirit of you and your film, I made it a point to have dinner with my wife at a very nice Sicilian restaurant in Waikiki which I'm sure you'll appreciate the name of. I shared with her a bit about what you're up to and we toasted to your future success(es).

Best,

Leo

PS: I too hate that 'separation anxiety' and have avoided it by bringing my wife and kids with me on most of my business trips. Not a quirk in my book...

Leo,

The fact that you took the time to post that, think of me, and take that picture really means a lot to me. I'm humbled.

Thanks for your support. It's not forgotten.
