Kobe jumps over an Aston Martin!

Dude, we're filmmakers and were discussing if this is real or not? It's obviously compositing, or the car is just slightly to the side. Why else would they shoot it at the side like that?

i don't think anyone is saying he jumped directly over the car coming at him. i think its more that the car is to kobe's immediate right.

meaning he is not standing in the path of the car.

if it is all done in compositing why does the aston martin's tires move and make an evident bank to the left...

i am not saying its not compositing and i definitely respect your guys' opinions but i don't know why the car would turn if it wasn't to avoid kobe at all costs.

You could be right, but even that seems to risky. Mostly we are reacting to the fact that if someone asked us how to do it, we'd just do it with masks and it would take a half hour.

So given that, doesn't even really make sense to have the car go next to him, I mean look how he lands ... he falls, if timing was off he could be under the car. It does look a bit odd, but given how easy it is to do and how there's so much risk jumping way up in the air like that 3 feet next to a speeding car, I'd bet that it looks slightly off because it was composited but the car wasn't exactly on the path or he wasn't standing exactly on his mark.

Again it would probably work to do the "next to" thing, but I don't see why you'd even entertain that idea when it'd be sooooooo easy to composite it and 100% safe.

I think that answer resolves my disputes.

Now I am wondering if possibly the driver merely realized he was off his mark and attempted to correct himself and in post they let it slip...which is inexcusable considering they had to know a commercial like this would be scrutinized to the T.

It seems pretty obvious int he slow mo version that the car is banking around him. You can see it in the angle of the car going away from the camera and banking back in during the jump and in the wheels.

I don't think there was much risk involved for Kobe, Jack. The real talent in that commercial was the stunt driver. He was the one with the job. Kobe just had to jump with decent timing. I don't think there is an ounce of compositing in that spot. Just the car driving to his side.

Plus the acting ain't all that good, which makes it a dead giveaway to me :)

Jason

I'm sorry, but I don't see it.

I'm taking a look at the shadow on the ground of the lamppost for reference. The car isn't dead center with Kobe, but if anything Kobe is jumping over 1 half of the car. Also the car is turning to the right slightly, but it doesn't look like it's missing him. If anything half of Kobe's Body is over the Aston Martin AT LEAST, and that's still dangerous.

Which is why I think it's composited.

Guys, this is a simple clone/splice job. Firstly you will notice the camera is static. Why? If this was such a great and dynamic thing, why is the camera locked?

I'll tell you why, because it is a hell of a lot easier to match plates when they dont move. But what do I know, it's not like I have done anything like that before:

I can assure you that in the first clip (which wasn't even locked down) I have neither a twin nor doppleganger, and in the second clip, my friend Kenna (who put it together himself for his Video Production final "exam" when I was teaching, and props to him) is only one person and not five.

EDIT: And for the record, no, I can not cast electric type fireballs. Also for the record, doing multiple takes throwing yourself backwards out of your chair to find one you like not only hurts like hell with no padding, but gets old quickly when your wife is laughing at you so hard she cant maintain a grip on the tripod.

I just can't believe how all you VIDEO GUYS keep falling for this crap... really... you gotta' be kidding me.

Thank you. And thanks to Matt for being rational and posting those links as well.

This "stunt" isn't even that original. Anyone here old enough to remember the TV show That's Incredible? On that show a martial arts guy actually jumped over a Ferrari speeding at him at some 100+mph. It was not faked, as the camera angle was about 10 degrees off the car's path. I believe there were multiple cam angles. Apparently the guy did the jump several times. A year or two later, he was contacted about jumping over two Ferraris (one tailing the other about a foot behind) he agreed, then balked, but was pressured by the show's producers to try it. He caved and made the attempt. Upon jumping hit his foot on the windshield of the second Ferrari, causing severe injury, and a mega-lawsuit that helped bring That's Incredible to their demise.

idk if anyone else here posted this but if the car is going that fast and he jumps over it,if it was real,in the middle of the jump his pants would catch some wind of the cars speed, and you would see it go back just a lil
but its smooth no wind effects his cloths, there for its fake
