Hey Everybody!

I'm new here, but am a regular at multiple Digital Video forums.

I'm an indy filmmaker / full-time producer in Silver Spring, MD.

I'd like to share with you an interesting concept I've created that I like to call the , "Indy Ultra Macro" rig.

It's cheap. It's Easy to make. It gets great results.

Check it out:

Also, I'm in the works creating a short film using ECU MACRO shots.

Thanks, guys!

Not bad... but... the vignette make's it almost useless, right? I mean, I can't think of a shot could make it work with that vignette... except maybe faking a peep hole shot or something.

I picked up cheapo macro filters off of ebay for less than 30 bucks, and get great results.

Not trying to rain on your parade... just an observation.

Thanks guys.

Edit-EXTREEM, if the DVX has a matte box and is able to focus at 0.1m or closer, then yes, it should work.

Ryan, don't worry, I brought an umbrella.

Here's a short I created using some more recent footage captured with the 'Indy Ultra Macro'.

I plan on adding some VO later, but for now... here it is!

This proves that the vignetting and barrel distortion can be eliminated in post with great results.

Thanks,

John

I made a recent discovery with my own Macro lens where I had disconnected my DIY 35mm Adapter from the Cinevate 72mm macro lens. Only the macro lens was left on the camera and looking through the monitor I discovered that I could see every single thread in the sheet on the bed where I had placed the camera.

I fooled around with it and eventually went on to shoot some incredible close-up footage of the actress for this music video i was shooting. That thing is incredible on shooting the close-up lip shots I've always wanted to get.

And there was no barrel distortion or vignetting. Now with your post, you've got me wondering about just coupling the macro lens with your nifty little setup and the results of that pairing. Wouldn't that take away a lot of the vignetting and make it more usable in a lot more applications without having to fix it in post?

puckthemad,

if you have a 35mm lens adapter you could always just reverse mount a 50mm prime onto the adapter... or better yet if you have a longer lens say a 100mm your could reverse a 50mm infront of it giving you even more macro with little to no vignetting.
