What are you looking forward to seeing this year at NAB?

Is it true that at the end of NAB they sell off cameras and etc... that they used for displays?
No, usually not -- I think the NAB rules even specifically say "no selling on the show floor" (not sure about that). But dealers like Spec-Comm will frequently buy up "B-stock" units and sell those. I would guess that the demo units at NAB will either be used for future shows or sold to the dealers as B-stock.

I am hoping to purchase a new hi def camera(10 k is my budget ) for use with my clients who use standard and hight definition .
Another issue is
we still shot 35mm in my company and the price of scanning out is at thsi time 700 per hour and in one hour long session the out put is ten minutes of hi def video
ill hope someone or some company at NAB has a product-solution focusing on this issue .
I hear alarming things about Vegas which I dont understand .
meanwhile all the pros are saying its all about using Avid and FCP
yet Adobe hangs in there and for private projects ,I find it very usefull .
My target is a sony camera but Panasonic appears to be coming up with some new units of great interest .
Of course i which to know all
about Scarlet .
I have associates in Las Vegas who will hopefully write about my one issue that concerns me
The cost of onboard 9portable )camera memory storage -the price just is not coming down !!!
Any comments are appreciated .
Cheers
Bruce

HVX does SD and HD very well and in all flavors.

I've been doing professional Broadcast for 30 years and we moved exclusively to VT and SpeedEDIT for the last 5-6 years. I usually edit with clients and SpeedEDIT can "speed" through editing as fast as clients can change their minds! Well, almost :) So not all the "Pros" use AVID or FCP. :)

The price of "camera memory storage" has dropped by half and nearly half again just in the time we've owned our HVX. Trust me, it is dropping.
I wish you luck with your search.

Hey guys,

I'm going to be attending, so if anyone wants to see the Carrion, stop by the Redrock Micro Booth at NAB. they are going to be showing it. (and it will have the new anti-glare coating) I will probably hang around there for a little bit also, and will be carrying a demo to show people around.

Wohhooo. so much fun.

Feel free to PM me if you want to meet.

Thanks,

Luis

New Hard Drive

New Hard Drive

JUST IN TIME FOR NAB!!!!!!

The IBM 350 was part of the IBM RAMAC 305, the computer that introduced disk storage technology to the world. IBM introduced the IBM 350 storage unit on September 4, 1956 before unveiling the entire RAMAC 305 computer nine days later on September 13.[1][2][3] RAMAC stood for "Random Access Method of Accounting and Control." Its design was motivated by the need to replace the punched card tub file used by most businesses of the time. The 350 stored 5 million 7-bit (6-bits plus 1 odd parity bit) characters (about 4.4 megabytes).[4] It had fifty 24-inch (610 mm) diameter disks with 100 recording surfaces. Each surface had 100 tracks. The disks spun at 1200 RPM. Data transfer rate was 8,800 characters per second. Two independent access arms moved up and down to select a disk and in and out to select a recording track, all under servo control. A third arm was added as an option. Several improved models were added in the 1950s. The IBM RAMAC 305 system with 350 disk storage leased for $3,200 per month. The 350 was officially withdrawn in 1969. The 350's cabinet was 60 inches (approx. 1.52 meters) long, 68 inches (approx. 1.72 meters) high and 29 inches (approx. 74 centimeters) deep. IBM had a strict rule that all its products must pass through a standard 29.5 inch (approx. 75 centimeters) doorway. Since the 350's platters were mounted horizontally, this rule presumably dictated the maximum diameter of the disks.
In an interview[5] published in the Wall Street Journal, Currie Munce, research vice president for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, which acquired the IBM's storage business, said the entire RAMAC unit weighed over a ton and had to be moved around with forklifts and delivered via large cargo airplanes. According to Munce, while the storage capacity of the drive could have been increased above five megabytes, the marketing department at IBM was against a larger capacity drive because they didn't know how to sell a product with more storage.

OK, so it won't be at NAB and rumor has it that we will find something somewhat better, but it's hard to believe that anyone could ever improve on a unit like this...

I'm only 1 week late from April first...

If there will be an update of the HVX200 at all I expect at most the following :

improved LCD with flip frame
HD-SDI
improved noise reduction algoritm
and maybe some minor optimalisation in the menues

I don't expect :

other CCDs
removal of tape drive
interchangable lens
no AVC-HD

since this would mean a complete new camera.

Hey guys,

for those not attending, here is a copy of the postcard I will be handing out about the CARRION. Hope you like it.

thanks for looking,

Luis
