Messner is the man. This dude is so down to earth, so friendly I can't hardly believe it.

He's a texter. Loves to text. If you want to reach him, you don't phone or e-mail, you text. And the dude responds in 2 seconds.

Like any actor assuming a role, he wants to make changes to the script that will make the character his own. Not big changes. For the record, I welcome these. My script is a guideline of how to get from point A to point B. That's it.

I love improv. No one, but no one criticizes my script. I don't give a **** what the public thinks about it. But when one of my actors wants to change something, I listen.

I'll listen to anything once.

So anyways, Johnny wants to run the script and change some lines. He's invited me to his house to do this. I go monday.

Now I realize Johnny is not Tom Cruise or Bruce Willis, but he is a celebrity. The fact that he does something on the level I would do it is astonishing....hey, you want to meet? Come over to my place - mi casa e su casa.

The guy's amazingly normal, which is odd for an actor. I liked him about 30 seconds after I met him. He reminds me of me.

Copy that, looks like that'll do you fine... How many shoot days, and how long's the script?

Our script was 120 pages, we had a crew slightly larger than that (2 or 3 more people) and we shot in 17 days. (12 hour days)

Hmm, you can't use that poster. No stars. You have to display your stars!

I'm liking it the way it is.
I understand that by showing the stars it can be far more attractive, but for me, using actors in the poster is too classic (not saying that classic is bad, but in this case the poster should show what the movie is about not who is acting in it).

Just my opinion.

Im really enjoying this thread, make me want to fly out to Hollywood and do the same thing, just go for it. I'm really looking forward to hearing how you are funding it, I understand you said it wasnt any amazing trick of technique, therefore I am excited to see how somthing so simple can get you the budget you got :D

David.

The poster was made before we had most of the people attached. This is the "pre-star version". Still not sure if we'll put them up there.

Brandon - 14 shoot days, 97 pages.

Brandon - it's the same page count as your film. Figure it out. It's actually slightly fewer pages - 6.92 vs 7.07 for your movie.

That's why I said that...

It was a heck of a time getting the coverage we had to with the time we had... and the SAG regulations... fun stuff

I thought that might be it. It's pretty poster, I must say.

Let us explore the merits and demerits of using stars in a poster ...
nah, of course you'll use them; you're just pulling our legs!

Do you have any rehearsal plans outside those 14 days of shooting? It'd be interesting to learn how Hollywood stars feel about rehearsing for roles.

All industry pros. They were an amazing crew. And we did on average 1-3 takes of every shot, because the actors were on point as well.

If you're still on the fence about cameras and actors let me suggest 2 things:

HPX3000, 2 of them rents for $28,000 for 4 weeks from Panavision with EVERYTHING in relation to camera. Why do I know this? I'm working on a feature RIGHT NOW that's using 2 of them. I can't post screen grabs because of a non-disclosure agreement but I can send you an email if you're interested in the quality.

Also another PHENOMENAL actor that you should look into that I HIGHLY recommend is Kevin Gage (http://imdb.com/name/nm0300824/). He's on the indie film that's in production right now that I'm actually waiting for a ride to go down and start day 8. Great guy, awesome to work with and can REALLY sell himself.

Feel free to shoot me an email and I'll see what I can do:

The director was originally going to shoot on the HVX + 35mm adapter but switched to the HPX3000 at the last minute and for good reason. We're using the HVX200 in conjunction with the 3000 and the difference is really night and day!

Hey man,

I'm definitely committed to the HVX at this point.

I've heard of Kevin Gage through my agent.....who happens to be his agent!!!!!
