I think it's time for an upgrade to HPX. The best part is that your workflow won't change, but it will change completely from a lensing standpoint.

I'll bring the A-Camera and AC for your guy. Heck, if I'm getting a little box rental, I'll 2nd for your guy.

Would be good, Erik. I've already had two or three HPX offers, though. I've turned them down because for me, the cost to get the cam (even rent it) doesn't pencil out with a huge noticeable increase in picture quality.

I've seen the HPX footage and although it's better than HVX footage, it's not good enough for me to want to switch over to.

I guess I'm really not feeling the upgrade on that one.

I'm with Taormina. Plus, there's no relay worth buying just yet. It should be out soon, that could change your mind, Taormina.

But, without that I wouldn't consider it either.

RED will cost quite a bit of cash in post if you aren't equipped for it.

Meet Corrado - you guessed it, Johnny Messner.

Still have to finalize paperwork, but the guy is a total bro. Very cool dude!

Also here is the poster. My neighbor owns an ad agency and came up with this. Everyone likes it so far.

Kholi - the relay costs $4-5K. I spoke to Hien about it. With that number, plus glass plus body, I'm buying a RED. At least once they get their **** together over there.

Liking the poster. What did they do to assemble it? ie how much was created originally (and how)/was made from stock images?

Hblack - I dunno. Rob Verilli is my friend, practically my brother. We play rock band all the time. He has a big ad agency and does these things for a living.

I don't really ask too many questions. He just does it.

I know how much they cost. =B It's better than buying a DigiZoom, though. And you get the Dynamic range and light sensitivity of an HPX500. That's definitely a pro.

The body is now 8k, by the way.

So: 8k + 3k for batteries etc + 4k for relay = 15k

You won't get a working RED ONE for that much.

Kholi - it's more if you add glass. Plus sticks to carry all that weight. If I'm gonna spend $25-35Kfor all that, I'm spending 50 and buying a RED for sure.

I cannot in good conscience purchase a camera that I have to rent lenses on. The HVX is the exceptio - I can shoot it without lenses or put on cheap nikon glass.

I'd never put Nikons on an HPX. And if I want to just screw around and shoot on weekends I don't want to rent.

So I'd buy a RED and a set of RED primes.

It's moot anyways - the next movie will be shot on film for a variety of reasons.

Could you offer any insight as to why? As far as I know (which granted, is very little) the impracticalities and cost outweigh the advantages.

It's moot because it's your movie not mines! LOL. I think if you're confident with the HVX + LetusEx for feature filmmaking then please, by all means, show us what's up! I'm sure we'd all love to see our beloved or BEHATED (cough) camera bein' used for a REAL feature... not Cloverfield or by someone less experienced.

Still think the pricing is a bit off for what you're sayin' but I get what your point regardless.

RED's expenses go far beyond the body and lenses. HPX isn't that much beyond a relay and lenses.

You mean why is my next movie on film?

Here are the reasons:

1. I want to do it namely for artistic considerations
2. There is still a perception, however faint, that real movies are made on film. Don't go posting anecdotes about digital movies, because I agree with you all about HD - I love it. Not everyone does, though.
3. I loved shooting my first short on 35mm. It has a magic that cannot easily be replicated. Both in the shooting and the watching.

That's about it. If it was not film, it would be very high end HD take your pick (Genesis, RED, F23, etc.)

I love my HVXs but they are not $2 plus million dollar movie cameras.

Mmmm Genesis. Boy is that camera the shizzle. It would be no contest between those digital cameras; Genesis is the winner.

Film still kills them all if you have the budget, though.

One more thing I'd like to mention about the HVX - even with our budget, crew, and cast, we will not exceed the HVX's capabilities.

People, at some point the equipment you possess is adequate enough to do the job. I bet you give my cameras and equipment to Ridley and he'll make a movie that will knock your socks off.

I don't need a better LCD, removable lenses, more pixels or bigger CCDs - I need to become a better filmmaker.

I now possess adequate equipment to do the job.

If the movie sucks, You won't hear me saying it was because we didn't have 2/3" CCDs.

I think you can get so buried in the details of the **** you need to buy that you forget to focus on the talent end of it.
