has anyone got the duel adapter to read 16GB cards?

my adapter works fine with the 8GB. it seems as though there needs to be updated drivers for the intel mac for the 16GB card. but the 16GB do read in my older powerbook. hmmm

anyone else get it working?

thanks- anthony

Normally the installer will ask you at the beginning of installation process, if he should uninstall the old version. If not I would do it manually. In a windows XP system I would do it in the registry, but I have no Idea how it works within a Mac.

So I found a panasonic mac p2pcmia driver that cynic posted which came from Jan. this installed on my machine fine. now when i insert the 16GB card into the duel adapter it shows up in the menu bar under the duel icon as Panasonic P2 Card. but the card doesn't show up as a drive in the finder.

Still trying to install the mac drivers from the panasonic site, but the installer tells me to try installing again later.

does anyone know what files to trash to uninstall the drivers on a mac?

thanks for the help so far - anthony

I had that problem when I first installed the Duel Adapter drivers. It was with 8GB and 4GB cards, but I reinstalled the Panasonic PCD20 drivers and then it worked.

for a p2 store i'm sure that could work.

can anyone confirm that a 16GB card is working with the duel-adapter?

and if so which drivers, from where, and how did you install them?

thanks

I can confirm that yes, there are drivers, and they worked with my setup and 16GB cards. I downloaded the drivers and installed per the thread referenced above. One key I did find is, and someone mentioned it elsewhere, but booting with the adapter installed didn't work. My Macbook Pro needed to be on and running when I plugged in the adapter, otherwise I got nothing.

My 16 Gb P2 cards are working with the Duel Adapter on MacBook Pro 17" 2.4 GHz OS X 10.4.9. I copied files, made disk images of the P2 cards, loaded and transferred to Final Cut Pro 6 using Log and Transfer.

Caveat: As others have mentioned it DOES crash the system to try to reinsert the Duel adapter with the current drivers installed.

Confirming previous posts, it is a one shot deal- start computer, insert Duel adapter, upload P2 cards until done, then remove adapter and restart computer. Attempting to reinsert the Duel adapter more than once or altering the sequence does cause grief. In my case, testing to see what would happen resulted in a locked computer requiring a restart. That suggests strongly that the driver is trouble! Use with caution and back up before testing, the driver is definitely NOT alright. It works "sort of" but beware, it's buggy!

Hopefully revised drivers will open a wider window of operability. Meanwhile, it works with careful attention to sequence of events.

Here is a summary of the steps taken:

Upgraded HVX200 camera to firmware v.4.05 for 16 Gb P2 cards via SD card slot

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/soft_agree_e.htm

Tested 16 Gb P2 card in camera- worked fine.

Used the Panasonic driver pcdriver_macintel.zip

from here:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/pcdriver_e.htm

Used P2PCCard Install.pkg
restarted
inserted duel adapter, then inserted P2 card (16)
P2 card did NOT show up on desktop.
then installed AJ-PCD20 driver too, called P2Drive Install.dmg
inserted duel adapter, then inserted P2 card (16)
then P2 card showed up on desktop like it should.

I did NOT use this beta driver from Duel, since my system works adequately with the one I am using right now. But here it is for reference. It's beta so once again- proceed with caution.

DuelAdapter Installer_Mac_Version 1.0.4 (BETA) (05/29/2007)
Note: This driver will install on Mac OS 10.4.9.

Good luck!

thanks for the help -

unfortunately the panasonic drivers will not install on my system. it tries to upgrade the current drivers - and then just says "please try installing again". this is the problem - and i cannot figure out a way around it. it simply will not install on my computer. i try to manually uninstall the kext files in extensions - doesn't work. it just keeps saying please try installing again.

anyhow i guess i'll have to wipe the drive clean to see if that will work.

thanks again for the help-

Steve:

which driver did you use for the dual adapter if you didn't use the beta driver?

I used this one:

Driver Software for Mac P2 STORE / PCMCIA card slot / IEEE1394b

from this page:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/pcdriver_e.htm

Your mileage may vary. The drivers are definitely half baked in my opinion. Last night it worked until the time it crashed the system requiring a restart... in that case I followed previously succesful tactics but upon one insance of reinserting the P2 card the system hung in a very definitive way. The only recourse was a hard restart. That was using the released non beta driver. I will probably wait for the next final non beta driver to attempt to modify my system, since the current setup works just well enough to get by and I don't want to upset the apple cart which is precariously balanced on top of a house of cards

Are you talking only about the MAC?
I'm trying to get the DSA installed on my new Alienware laptop and no luck even for the 8gig cards.

The HVX shows up fine. The D.S.A. shows up fine, but when I insert the 8gig card in the DSA, no folder shows and I get the yellow question mark in device manager.

I've been on the phone with Panasonic, Duel Adapter and Alienware tech support. While everyone has bee nice, nobody has resolved this.
The Alienware people said they do not use the HP or Compaq components.

So I'm guessing Duel Systems has more problems then just with those. Arrrgggg. Gotta get somethig done since I have a 3 day shoot to get ready for. I'm about to throw 2k at the AJ-PDC20 just to move past this frustration!

If Panasonic were to market a 2 slot version of the AJ-PDC20 for $499 they'd sell all they could manufacture. That's what I would vastly prefer , as opposed to a third party express card solution not specifically intended exclusively for P2 media.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one at NAB suggesting this to the Panasonic reps!

My experience with express card solutions in general has been that the implementation is half baked. Even the slot design is flaky, the express cards don't always seat firmly or eject with authority. That being said, I'm grateful for an inexpensive solution being available at all... fingers and toes crossed that the drivers will become more robust over time.

I'm going mad!
reinstalled 10.4.9. tried installing the p2pc card drivers for intel off the panny site. installer still says "please try again later"

i borrowed a p2 reader and that will not work either as the panny drivers will not install.

I am having this same problem on a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11. Each time I run the installer for the drivers:

Either the package that was released 01/2008 https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/soft/macintosh.zip

Or the older one from 2007
https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/soft/pcdriver_macintel.zip

I get the "please try again later" message.

I called Panasonic and they seem to tell me that they don't really know what the deal is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
txcrew
